He hired a fake boyfriend. The real problem was falling in love with him.
Adrian Vale has spent his career proving that love is a contract people eventually break.
When his sister’s destination wedding threatens four days of family interrogation about his empty love life, Manhattan’s most feared divorce attorney does what he does best: he finds a solution. A polished, discreet, utterly temporary solution.
Luca Reyes is supposed to be one weekend of effortless charm — a convincing boyfriend, a buffer against intrusive questions, and absolutely nothing more.
Except Luca is the sharp-tongued stranger Adrian can’t stop thinking about. The one man who sees straight through his expensive suits, perfect composure, and carefully managed life.
A suite mix-up puts them in one bed. A family crisis turns every staged touch into something real. And the more convincingly they play in love, the harder it becomes to remember who’s performing.
Luca has one rule: nobody gets to buy the parts of him that are real.
Adrian has one problem: for the first time in his life, he doesn’t want an exit clause.

Chapter One: Adrian
Three weeks before the worst decision of his life, Adrian Vale watched a stranger ruin a perfectly good evening.
The bar was called Vesper, which was pretentious enough to keep out the finance bros and quiet enough to attract the kind of Manhattan clientele who considered a fourteen-dollar old fashioned a reasonable Tuesday expenditure. Adrian had chosen it specifically because no one from his firm drank here, the bartender made his bourbon neat without commentary, and the lighting was dim enough to discourage conversation.
He was two drinks into what he’d planned as a silent, methodical decompression after nine hours of cross-examining a forensic accountant who’d tried to hide six million dollars in a shell corporation registered to a Labradoodle. He’d won, obviously. He always won.
Adrian loosened his tie a quarter inch — his version of celebrating — and raised his glass to no one.
That was when the stranger walked in.

Three months after the HEA, Adrian leaves a document on the kitchen table. It’s not a contract. It has an appendix. The appendix has twelve items. They don’t finish all of them. The kitchen counter is involved.
