Heat: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Inferno
Tropes: Two Tops + Third, Friends to Lovers, Fake Dating, Forced Proximity, Praise Kink

Two dominant tops. One impossible attraction. A third who changes everything.

Marcus Thorne has spent his life in control. As captain of Summit University’s basketball team, he’s led them to national prominence through discipline, focus, and an iron will. The last thing he needs is a distraction—especially one shaped like his co-captain and best friend.

Nico Rivera plays like he lives: reckless, brilliant, and impossible to ignore. He’s wanted Marcus for three years, but their chemistry off the court has one fatal flaw. They’re both tops. Every attempt at more has ended in frustration, neither willing to yield.

When a chance encounter with Leo Chen—a confident pre-med student who knows exactly what he wants—shows them a third way, everything changes. Suddenly, the impossible becomes possible. The competition becomes collaboration. And two men who thought they couldn’t work discover that the best plays are the ones you run together.

But secrets have a cost.

With a championship on the line, coaches watching their every move, and a morals clause that could destroy everything, Marcus and Nico must decide: Is love worth the risk? Or will the pressure of the spotlight tear them apart before they ever get their shot?

Chapter One: The Court

The ball hit the hardwood with a crack that echoed through the empty gym like a gunshot.

Marcus Thorne didn’t flinch. He’d been running this drill for fifteen years, since before he could see over the rim, since the courts in Detroit were the only place that felt like home. Crossover. Behind the back. Between the legs. The ball was an extension of his body, moving on instinct while his eyes tracked everything else.

Ten players spread across the court. Two assistant coaches with clipboards. The afternoon light cutting through the high windows of the Summit University Athletic Center, painting gold stripes across the forest green floor.

And Nico Rivera, twenty feet away, bouncing on the balls of his feet like he couldn’t stand still if someone paid him.

“Thorne!” Coach Dalton’s voice cracked across the gym. “Run it again. Davis, you’re a half-second slow on the rotation. Half a second gets us killed in March.”

Marcus caught the ball, held it against his hip, and nodded once. He didn’t need to look at Nico to know exactly where he’d be when the play started. Three years of running together had burned that knowledge into his bones.

He slapped the ball twice—their signal—and the world narrowed to mathematics. Angles, distances, timing. Davis cut left. Thompson set the screen. And Nico—

Nico did something stupid.

Instead of curling around Thompson’s screen to the three-point line like the play demanded, he drove straight into the paint, weaving between two defenders with a behind-the-back dribble that had no business working. His body twisted, airborne, hanging for an impossible moment before he kissed the ball off the glass and through the net.

Showoff.
