He’s the captain with everything to lose. He’s the trade who has nothing left. When a blizzard traps them in a motel with one bed, the ice between them starts to melt.
Liam O’Connor is hockey royalty. The captain of the Boston Corsairs, son of the head coach, heir to a dynasty built on winning at any cost. He’s spent twenty-eight years being exactly what his father demands: controlled, perfect, and absolutely, unquestionably straight.
Reese Maddox is everything Liam isn’t supposed to want. The foster kid turned first-round pick with a chip on his shoulder, tattoos on his skin, and zero respect for the O’Connor legacy. When a mid-season trade lands him on Liam’s line, they clash on the ice and off it.
Then a February blizzard strands them at a roadside motel with one bed, one bottle of whiskey, and years of tension finally reaching its breaking point.
What happens in that room should have stayed there. But when their chemistry starts showing on the ice—and the cameras start noticing—Liam has to choose: the legacy his father demands, or the man who makes him feel alive for the first time in his life.
Overtime Heat is a 54,000-word MM hockey romance featuring enemies-to-lovers, one bed, a captain who’s been hiding his whole life, a trade who refuses to be anyone’s secret, and an HEA worth fighting for. First in the Boston Corsairs series.

Chapter One: First Impressions
Reese Maddox had been traded three times in four years. He knew the drill.
Walk into the new locker room. Find the guys who matter—the captain, the enforcers, the veterans who decide whether you sink or swim. Keep your head down until you’ve proven yourself. Don’t make waves.
But the moment he stepped into the Boston Corsairs facility, every piece of advice he’d ever received flew right out of his head.
Because there, standing in front of his new locker—the locker with MADDOX #27 freshly taped above it—was Liam O’Connor.
The Liam O’Connor. Captain. Legacy. Hockey royalty in human form.
And he was looking at Reese like he was something stuck to the bottom of his skate.
“You’re early.”
It wasn’t a greeting. It wasn’t even an observation. It was an accusation, delivered in a voice so controlled it might as well have been carved from ice.
“Traffic was light,” Reese said, because apparently his survival instincts had taken the day off. “Wanted to make a good first impression.”
O’Connor’s jaw tightened. Up close, he was even more annoyingly perfect than he looked on television—sharp cheekbones, blue eyes that could freeze a man at twenty paces, dark hair that probably fell into place without effort. He was exactly the kind of guy Reese had spent his whole life hating on principle.
“First impressions matter,” O’Connor said, his gaze dropping pointedly to Reese’s tattoos, his ratty travel clothes, the general air of ‘just rolled off the bus from Minnesota.’ “Though I suppose it’s a bit late for that.”
Reese felt his hackles rise. He’d been warned about this—the O’Connor legacy, the family dynasty that ran the Corsairs like their personal fiefdom. Liam as the golden boy captain, his father Patrick as the demanding head coach, generations of winning at any cost.
He’d also been told, in no uncertain terms, to play nice.
Don’t rock the boat. Don’t challenge the captain. Don’t give them a reason to ship you out again.
Reese had always been terrible at following advice.
“Weird thing to say to someone you’ve never met,” he said, dropping his bag in front of his locker with deliberate nonchalance. “Almost like you’d already decided not to like me.”
Something flickered in O’Connor’s eyes—surprise, maybe, or irritation. It was hard to tell past the Arctic blast of his expression.
“I don’t dislike you, Maddox. I don’t know you.” He stepped closer, lowering his voice so only Reese could hear. “But I know your type. Hot-shot winger who thinks stats are everything. Who coasts on talent instead of putting in the work. Who bounces from team to team because no one can stand playing with him for more than a season.”
The words landed like punches. Each one accurate. Each one designed to hurt.
Reese refused to flinch.
“Wow,” he said. “Did you rehearse that, or does being an asshole just come naturally to you?”
