The ice between them was never about hockey.

Vance “Reaper” Hall is the captain of the Portland Reapers — thirty-two years old, six-foot-four, and emotionally sealed behind thirty years of a father who taught him that love was a defensive liability. He hasn’t smiled in six years. He hasn’t let anyone past the mask in longer. He runs the locker room with the precision of a man who controls everything because controlling nothing would destroy him.

Ty Kincaid is twenty-three, a mid-season trade nobody asked for, and the loudest person in every room he enters. He has a rescue pit bull named Brick, a tattoo on his ribs that reads still here, and the specific, unshakable brightness of a man who aged out of foster care at eighteen and decided that if nobody was going to stay for him, he’d stay for himself. He’s fast, he’s talented, and he will not shut up.

They collide in a shower after Ty’s first game — hostile, territorial, electric. What starts as a power struggle becomes an addiction neither can quit. Locker rooms. Hotel rooms. Equipment closets. The back of the team bus at 2 a.m. Every encounter strips another layer, and underneath the friction they find something neither was looking for: a connection so deep it rewrites the way they play, the way they fight, and the way they understand themselves.

But the NHL isn’t ready for a captain who loves his winger. When the front office delivers an ultimatum — end it, or Ty gets traded to a bottom-feeder team — Vance makes a choice that nearly destroys them both. Because the man who spent his life building walls doesn’t know how to fight for something without fighting alone.

COLD WARS is a high-heat MM hockey romance featuring a stoic captain who hasn’t cried since his grandfather died, a former foster kid who writes permanence on his body because nobody ever gave it to him, a rescue dog who knows exactly who belongs in his apartment, and a love story that starts with a shove and ends with a Stanley Cup and two men walking out of an arena holding hands. It contains explicit content, light bondage, emotional devastation, power exchange, and a happily-ever-after that required both of them to burn down every wall and build something new — together.

Still here. Still here. Still here.

The kid wouldn’t stop talking.

That was the first thing I noticed about Ty Kincaid — not the speed, which the scouts had raved about in their acquisition report, or the hands, which were supposedly the softest in the AHL, or the fact that at twenty-three he had the kind of face that sports media departments built entire social campaigns around. No. The first thing I noticed, standing in the corridor outside the visitors’ locker room at the Cascade Center while the Portland Reapers completed the most lifeless 4-1 loss of the season, was that the new acquisition had not stopped talking since he’d arrived at morning skate seven hours ago.

He talked during warmups. He talked during drills. He talked on the bench between shifts, his mouth running a constant commentary that ranged from tactical observations to personal anecdotes to what appeared to be a real-time review of the arena’s catering options. He talked to Marcus Webb, our enforcer, who responded with the monosyllabic patience of a man who’d learned that engaging only encouraged the behavior. He talked to Javi Reyes, our fourth-line center, who actually seemed to enjoy it — which told me more about Javi’s judgment than I wanted to know.
