I told one lie to save my career. Now I have to pay a man to make it true.

The COO seat is mine — until a journalist asks about my personal life and I panic. “I have a boyfriend,” I say. I don’t. I’ve never even held a man’s hand in public.

Enter Theo Alvarez: twenty-six, gorgeous, and very much for hire. Six months. Public dates. A contract with rules for everything.

Except the contract doesn’t have a clause for what happens in the hotel rooms after. For the way he says good boy and my whole world reorders itself. For the fact that the only place I’ve ever felt honest is in bed with a man I’m paying to lie.

He has one rule: never fall for a client.
I have one problem: I already broke mine.

The Boyfriend Clause is a high-heat MM contemporary romance with a closeted exec, a charming escort, fake dating that gets very real, praise kink that rewires the whole system, and a guaranteed HEA. 90,000 words of smut with story.

You’ll love this book if you enjoy:

✅ Fake dating with real feelings and a contract that keeps crumbling

Chapter One: The Lie

The board wanted a story, so I gave them one. Twelve slides, eight minutes, one killer statistic dropped at the exact moment Richard Ellison reached for his water glass, because Richard Ellison always reached for his water glass at the seven-minute mark and a man who noticed things like that was a man who ran rooms.

“Meridian Home isn’t a product line,” I said, clicking to the final slide. “It’s a moat. Every device we put in a customer’s living room makes it more expensive for them to leave us. Eleven percent churn reduction in the pilot markets. At scale, that’s not revenue. That’s gravity.”

Silence for two seconds. Then Ellison set down his glass and said, “Gravity,” like he was tasting it, and I knew I had them.

I didn’t smile. Smiling was for after, in the elevator, alone, and even then only on the inside. I closed the laptop, thanked them for their time, and walked out of the boardroom at the pace of a man who had somewhere better to be, which was a lie, because there was nowhere better than that room. There never had been.

Lena caught me at the elevator bank. Lena Okafor, Chief Operating Officer for the next four months and then, God willing, my predecessor. Sixty-one years old, silver locs, the only person at Meridian who scared me, which was exactly why I’d spent seven years making myself useful to her.

“Gravity,” she said. “Did you rehearse that?”

“Forty times.”

“Good boy.” She said it the way you’d say it to a border collie, and something in the back of my skull flinched anyway, some old wire I kept meaning to have removed. “Walk with me.”
