The bandage came off on a Tuesday.
Leander stood in the bathroom with his shirt unbuttoned, peeling the last strip of medical wrap from his ribs with the methodical patience of a man unwrapping a structural element he’d been waiting eighteen months to see installed. I leaned against the doorframe and watched, because watching Leander do anything with his hands was a spectator sport I had never tired of and suspected I never would.
