This scene takes place two weeks after the epilogue. Brynn has officially moved into her new consultancy office at Voss House. Samira finds a reason to inspect it.
The office smelled like fresh paint and possibility.
I’d been here since seven — arranging the desk, positioning the bookshelf, hanging the framed Edinburgh diploma that Eloise had shipped with a note reading For your wall of pretension — and the east-facing windows were doing exactly what I’d promised they would.
Then I heard the heels.
“Ms. Calder.” The formal name. With the smile underneath. “I’m here to conduct a facilities inspection of the new tenancy.”
She closed the door. The click of the latch was soft and final and entirely deliberate.
“Load-bearing capacity?”
“Untested.”
She knelt. Samira Voss knelt on the hardwood floor of my office — my office, the office she’d given me, the twelve-feet-away space that was now mine by lease and by love.
“This is my building,” she said. “My floor. My tenant. I take facilities management very seriously.”
“Come for me,” she said against my clit. “Christen the office. I want to sit in meetings across from this room and know what happened on this desk.”
“Load-bearing capacity confirmed,” she said.
“Your turn,” I said. “Against the wall. The glass wall.”
“Exceeds expectations,” she murmured.
“Welcome to your office, Ms. Calder.”
“The landlord, however, could still improve.”
Twelve feet away. Glass wall between us. Everything else was different.
The methodology was love.
