Amended Terms

The beach house was Dom’s idea. Five days on the Gulf Coast, no laptops. He’d said “we deserve this” without visible discomfort. I had a titanium ring in my suitcase.

Day three. Dom on the porch reading a novel with a sunburn and bare feet. I pulled the ring out. “You are the best deal I ever made. No expiration date. No terms. Just us.”

“Yes,” he said. No hesitation. He pulled me into his lap. “Inside. Now.”

He stripped me slowly. “Fiance,” he tested the word. Then dropped to his knees. The titanium caught sunlight as he took me into his mouth with devastating precision and something new underneath — joy, celebration, the physical expression of yes.

He took me apart on the bed. Every thrust a promise. Every kiss a signature. His ring hand pinned mine to the pillow. “I love you. I’m going to marry you. I’m going to make you come in every kitchen we ever own.”

“I’m also going to make you file joint taxes with me and you’re going to hate it.”

I laughed. I came. Both at once. He followed with his ring hand on my heart and my name like a closing argument.

Afterward. Wrecked sheets. Gulf breeze. Golden light. “Partners,” I said. “Partners,” he said. And kissed the place over my heart.

The merger is complete. The terms are permanent.
