After the Gala

Set one year after the epilogue. The night of the Fairmont gala.

The brownstone was dark when they got home.

Ilias found the hallway light while Danica locked the door, and the ground floor of Frost, North, Sloane & Vale materialized in warm amber — the reception desk David kept immaculate, the framed original of their handwritten trial-house rules on the wall, the frosted-glass conference room door bearing four names in gold.

Greer kicked off her heels in the entry hall. The navy dress rode up her thigh as she bent to unbuckle the second strap. She did not fix it.

“That was,” Ilias said, loosening his tie, “the most satisfying professional event I have ever attended.”

“You said that about the last one,” Leander said, removing his overcoat with the methodical precision of a man who folded things even when he was two glasses of champagne past methodical.

“The last one didn’t have the managing director of Harwick & Pearl telling Danica her ethics brief was the most elegant piece of litigation he’d read in thirty years.”

“He was being collegial,” Danica said. She checked her watch — 11:47, the second hand hitching on the nine. “It was not an unusual compliment.”

“You blushed.” “I did not blush.” “The silver streak turned pink. I have photographic evidence.”

Greer, halfway up the stairs, turned. “Are you two going to flirt in the entryway all night, or are you coming upstairs?”

“Upstairs is for sleeping,” Ilias said. “I have a different proposal.” He nodded toward the conference room.

Danica walked past all of them. Opened the conference room door. Turned on the lamp — not the overhead, the desk lamp that cast warm light across the walnut surface. She looked over her shoulder. The green-brown eyes, gold near the pupils, catching the lamplight.

“Coming?” she said.

They came.

Leander closed the door. The lock clicked. Every body in the room responded — a collective shift in breathing, in posture, in the quality of attention directed at one another.

Greer moved first. She crossed to Danica, took the lapel of her black suit jacket, and pulled her down for a kiss that tasted like champagne and certainty. Danica’s hands found Greer’s waist, fingers digging into the silk at her hips. Greer opened her mouth and the kiss deepened into something wet and demanding, Greer’s tongue sliding against Danica’s, Danica pulling the fabric taut across her ass.

Ilias took Leander’s silver tie and used it as a leash to pull him forward. Leander came willingly, and then they were kissing against the table edge, Ilias’s back against the walnut, Leander’s body pressing him into it. Leander’s tongue moved against his with the maddening rhythm that made Ilias’s hips grind forward, seeking the hard evidence of Leander’s arousal through two layers of tailored wool.

“Table,” Greer said. The single word a verdict.

They stripped the surface. Case files stacked on a side chair. Suit jackets next — Danica’s black, Ilias’s black, Leander’s charcoal folded once with characteristic precision.

Danica unzipped Greer from behind. Slowly. The zipper descending from the nape of her neck to the small of her back. The navy silk pooled at her feet. Beneath it: a black lace bralette that barely contained her breasts and matching underwear that was technically present and functionally decorative. Nothing else.

“You planned this,” Danica said. Her voice had dropped a register.

“I’m a litigator. I prepare for every contingency.”

“Black lace is not a contingency. It’s premeditation.”

“Guilty. I plead guilty and I’m not interested in a reduced sentence.”

Ilias pulled his shirt over his head. The tattoos emerged — the geometric Greek key across his left pectoral, the courage text along his ribs, the laurel branch from wrist to inner elbow. He pushed his trousers down and stood in black boxer briefs that did nothing to conceal his arousal and were not intended to.

Leander undressed with measured efficiency. His body in the lamplight was broad and sculpted — the deep brown skin, the silver at his temples, the defined chest. Danica removed her own shirt, dropped it on the chair. The olive skin, the fencer’s shoulders, the scar on her forearm.

The cross-pairs happened first. Tradition — not negotiated, but organically established over a year of shared nights.

Ilias went to Greer. Pulled her against him by the waist of her lace underwear. Kissed her neck, her collarbone, the swell of her breast. She laughed — because Greer always laughed with Ilias. He unclasped her bralette with one hand. The lace fell away. Her breasts were full and pale, nipples hardening in the cool air. His mouth was on one before the bralette hit the floor. He sucked hard and she gasped and her hips rolled forward against him, grinding against the rigid length of him through his briefs.

Behind them, Danica had Leander against the opposite table edge. She kissed his chest, the heartbeat beneath her lips. He guided her mouth to his throat and the sound he made when her teeth scraped the tendon — a low, controlled groan — carried across the room.

Leander’s hand slid into Danica’s trousers. Beneath the fabric, his palm cupping her ass, pulling her flush. His other hand unfastened her trousers and his fingers traced her hip, dipped beneath the elastic, and found her wet and swollen.

“Already,” he said.

“I’ve been watching you in that suit for four hours. The suit should come with a warning label.”

His fingers moved. Slow circles on her clit. The devastating rhythm that made Danica’s breathing go shallow and her composure begin its dissolution.

Danica moved to Greer. The primary pairing. The axis everything rotated around.

“Get on the table,” Danica said. The courtroom voice.

“Make me,” Greer said. Because Greer always said make me and the ritual was the point.

Danica lifted her. Hands under Greer’s thighs, fencer’s strength, and Greer was on the walnut surface with her legs wrapped around Danica’s waist and Danica’s mouth on hers. The wet, urgent sounds of two women who had spent seven years wanting each other filled the conference room.

Danica pulled Greer’s underwear down her legs. Knelt between her thighs.

Greer lay back on the table — the surface cool against her bare back — and felt Danica’s mouth find her. The flat of her tongue, broad and warm. The pointed tip, specific and relentless. The rhythm Danica had refined over twelve months into something so perfectly calibrated that the first sustained contact made Greer’s hips jerk off the table.

“Fuck,” Greer said. “Right there. Don’t change anything —”

Danica did not change anything. Her hands gripping Greer’s thighs. Her mouth working with the patient intensity of a woman who understood that Greer’s pleasure was a jurisdiction she intended to govern thoroughly.

Leander moved behind Ilias. Chest against his back. His hand slid beneath Ilias’s waistband and wrapped around his cock with the deliberate grip that Ilias responded to like voltage — his head falling back against Leander’s shoulder, his hips pushing into the pressure.

“Watch them,” Leander murmured against his ear. His hand moved. Slow, firm strokes. “Watch her come.”

Ilias watched. Greer’s back arching. Her hand in Danica’s dark hair, silver streak threaded through her fingers. Her thighs trembling. The sounds she made — sharp, rhythmic, escalating — while Leander stroked him in the same rhythm, matching her gasps with the motion of his hand.

Greer came hard. Her back arched completely off the table. Her cry was raw and extended — “Danica, fuck, right there, don’t stop, don’t stop” — and Danica did not stop, not through the first peak, not through the aftershocks, not until Greer was shaking and pulling at her hair and saying “enough, come here” in a voice stripped of every courtroom register.

Danica rose. Her mouth was wet. Her chin was wet. She did not wipe either. The sight of Danica Frost standing between Greer’s thighs with Greer’s arousal glistening on her lips landed in Ilias’s chest like a fist.

“Christ,” he said. Leander’s hand tightened on his cock. “If you keep — I’m going to —”

“Not yet,” Leander said. His hand slowing. Maintaining the edge without allowing the fall. “Not yet.”

Greer sat up. Pulled Ilias toward her by his waistband. Stripped his briefs down. “Sit on the table,” she told him. He obeyed. She slid off the table, knelt on the carpet, and took him in her mouth.

The sound Ilias made was loud and profane and grateful. Her mouth was hot and sure and she had learned him — the specific pressure, the angle, the way her tongue moved along the underside that made his hands fly to the back of her head and twist in her blonde hair. She took him deep, her rhythm fast because he was already close.

Leander moved to Danica. His fingers entered her with patient thoroughness that made her grip his shoulder and exhale through her teeth. A third finger. His thumb on her clit, circling.

“Not yet,” she said. “I want all four. I want all four of us.”

Greer climbed onto the table. Lay back. Pulled Ilias over her. “Now,” she said. No courtroom eloquence. A single word containing twelve months of trust.

He entered her in one slow thrust and the sound they made together — his groan and her gasp colliding — was the compound noise of two people who fit and knew they fit. He moved inside her with the rhythm that was uniquely theirs — faster than Leander, less controlled, punctuated by grinning and the joyful intensity that made them laugh and moan in the same breath.

Beside them, Danica lay back. Leander over her. His entry slow — deliberate, the patient slide that made her eyes close and her breath leave in a shuddering exhale. He moved with controlled depth, each thrust specific, his forehead against hers.

Four people on a walnut conference table. Two pairings side by side. The sounds mixing — Greer’s sharp gasps and Ilias’s groans and Danica’s quiet exhales and Leander’s breathing fracturing at the edges.

Greer turned her head. Looked at Danica six inches away. Danica turned. Their eyes met. Greer reached across the table. Found Danica’s hand. Laced their fingers together.

They held hands while their partners moved inside them. Two women joined at the fingers while joined at the body with two men who loved them.

Ilias shifted. Lifted Greer’s leg over his shoulder. Changed the angle. Drove deeper. Greer cried out and her hand tightened in Danica’s — “There, fuck, right there, don’t you dare stop” — and he didn’t stop, driving into her with focused, relentless rhythm.

“I’m close,” Greer said. Her voice wrecked. “Ilias, I’m —”

“Come for me,” he said. Grinning. Breathless. “Come for all of us.”

She came. The orgasm tore through her and drove three names from her mouth — Ilias because he was inside her, Danica because their hands were linked, Leander because his praise was a phantom she carried now.

Ilias followed. Two thrusts after her, his cock pulsing inside her as the orgasm ripped through him with a raw groan that shook his whole body.

Beside them, Leander lowered his mouth to Danica’s ear. “You built this,” he whispered. “All of it. The firm, the house, the four of us. You are extraordinary and I am never going to stop seeing you.”

Danica came with a sound that was quiet and devastating and continuous. Leander followed. His face pressed against her neck, his groan muffled against her skin, his body shaking.

They were not finished.

They were never finished after one round. That was the greedy luxury of four people with six connections — there was always another pairing to activate, always someone whose hands were free and whose desire was not diminished by watching others be satisfied.

Ilias moved to Leander. Pushed him into his conference chair. Straddled his lap. Kissed him with the urgent, claiming intensity that said the diplomat is off duty and the man is mine.

Leander’s hands gripped Ilias’s hips. Ilias found Leander’s cock — hard again — and stroked with the fast, confident rhythm that dissolved composure fastest. Leander’s head fell back. Ilias bit his exposed throat — not gently — and the sound Leander made was not measured or diplomatic or anything except raw.

On the table, Greer rolled toward Danica. Their bodies met — warm skin against warm skin, breasts pressing together, legs intertwining. Greer’s hand slid between Danica’s thighs and found her slick from Leander and swollen and sensitive. Danica gasped against Greer’s mouth when Greer’s fingers entered her.

“You’re so wet,” Greer murmured. “God, Danica.”

“Your observational skills are — ah — noted.”

Greer fucked her with two fingers. Then three. Slow, deep thrusts that made Danica’s hips rise off the table.

“Harder,” Danica whispered. “Greer. Harder.”

Greer obliged. Her fingers driving deeper, thumb circling Danica’s clit, mouth on her breast. Danica came with Greer’s fingers inside her and a sound so raw that Ilias said, “Holy fuck, Frost.”

Greer continued, and Danica came again — shorter, sharper, a second peak stacked on the first that made her grip the table with both hands and arch her back and release a sound that was, by Danica Frost standards, practically screaming.

In the chair, Ilias lowered himself onto Leander. Slowly. Watching Leander’s face change as Leander filled him. Leander’s hands steadying his hips. Leander’s eyes on his, open and dark and carrying eighteen months of unhidden love.

“Move,” Leander said. Rough. Stripped of diplomacy.

Ilias moved. Rode him in the conference chair with his hands braced on Leander’s shoulders and Leander’s cock deep inside him, hitting the spot that made his vision white out. He was loud — because Ilias was always loud, because the sound of his pleasure filling this room where four names were on the door was its own declaration.

Greer left the table. Came to them. Knelt behind the chair. Reached around and wrapped her hand around Ilias’s cock, stroking in counterpoint to his rhythm on Leander — and the compound sensation of Leander inside him and Greer’s hand on him and Danica watching from the table was the specific, overwhelming excess that the quad existed to produce.

“I’m coming,” Ilias said. Not a warning. An inevitability. He came shaking, Greer’s hand catching him, Leander’s cock pulsing inside him as Leander followed half a second later with a groan that was not controlled and not quiet and not anything except the unfiltered sound of a man who had found the four people for whom composure was unnecessary.

They ended on the floor. The table, while structurally sound, was not designed for post-coital comfort.

Ilias on Leander’s chest. Hand over heart. The position that would never change.

Greer pressed against Danica’s side. Their fingers linked. The scar on Greer’s thumb resting against the silver watch on Danica’s wrist.

The city hummed outside the windows. The four names on the frosted glass caught the lamplight. The conference room smelled like sex and champagne and cedar and bergamot and gardenia and the irreducible compound of four bodies that had learned to become one.

“Same time next year?” Ilias said.

“Same time every year,” Danica said.

“Same time every Tuesday,” Greer said.

Leander pressed his lips to the top of Ilias’s head. “Same time always.”

Ilias closed his eyes. Smiled against the chest of the man he loved, in the room where they worked, surrounded by the people they had chosen, and felt — for the thousandth time, with no less force than the first — the specific, sustained, unshakeable conviction that he was not temporary.

He was home.
