The Quarterly Review
A Good Girl Contract Bonus Scene
PIPER
I brought the ties.
Not Leela’s ties — mine. Bought three days ago from a shop on Bleecker Street that sold silk scarves and didn’t ask questions when I spent forty minutes touching every fabric in the display while the saleswoman pretended not to notice I was blushing from my hairline to my collarbones. Navy blue. Charcoal gray. And one in deep burgundy that I chose because it matched the blazer I’d been wearing the day I came back.
They were folded in my bag alongside a blindfold — soft black silk, lined with satin — and a single piece of notebook paper. The paper was the important part. The ties were accessories. The paper was the plan.
I also brought a vibrator. Compact, curved, dark purple, rechargeable. I’d charged it for four hours that afternoon with the focused determination of a woman preparing for litigation. The saleswoman at the shop on Thompson Street had called it “the associate” because it was small and relentless and got the job done while the senior partners were still deliberating. I’d laughed so hard I bought two.
Leela was in the study when I arrived. Wednesday evening, seven-forty. She’d changed out of her suit into the dark lounge pants and cream henley that I’d been stealing since November, and her reading glasses were on, and her hair was down, and she looked like every fantasy I’d ever had about authority figures presented in domestic packaging.
“You’re early,” she said without looking up. “I thought you had the Henderson event until eight.”
“Dani covered it. I had something more important to do tonight.”
Now she looked up. The glasses came down her nose half an inch. The look she gave me over them was the look that had been ruining my concentration for fifteen months — the appraising, unhurried inventory of a woman who noticed everything and chose what to reveal she’d noticed.
“More important than the Henderson account?”
I set my bag on the desk. Opened it. Took out the ties and laid them across her legal pad in a neat row. Navy. Charcoal. Burgundy. Then the blindfold, folded beside them. Then the vibrator, placed with deliberate casualness next to the blindfold. Then the piece of notebook paper, placed on top like a cover sheet on a legal filing.
Leela stared at the arrangement. Her hands went still on her book. Her gaze moved from the ties to the blindfold to the vibrator and stayed there for three full seconds — processing, assessing, the attorney’s mind running the variables. Then her gaze lifted to my face, and what I saw in it was not surprise or amusement. It was hunger, unfiltered, streaking across her composure like a crack in marble.
“What is this?” she asked. Her voice had dropped half a register. She knew what it was. She wanted to hear me say it.
“Your quarterly review,” I said. “I’ve prepared a practical assessment.”
“We did the annual review three months ago. On my office floor, as I recall.”
“That was your review of general performance. This is different.” I picked up the notebook paper and unfolded it. “This is my review of you.”
Leela’s eyes tracked from the paper to the ties to the blindfold. Then to my face. I watched the realization arrive — not the content of what I was proposing, which she’d understood the moment she saw the silk, but the structure. The reversal. The fact that I hadn’t asked permission. I’d arrived with a plan.
“Read the paper,” I said.
She picked it up. My handwriting, pressing hard.
Tonight’s rules (Piper’s):
1. I lead. You follow. If you try to direct, I stop.
2. You tell me what feels good. Not as instructions. As reactions.
3. You say my name when you come. Not “good girl.” My name. Because tonight you’re the one being praised.
4. Safewords apply. Yellow to slow. Red to stop. Always.
5. You don’t get to touch me until I say so. Your hands stay where I put them.
6. When I’m done, you will admit out loud that I am an exceptional partner and that the quarterly numbers are strong.
Leela read the list. Read it again. When she looked up, her eyes were dark and her mouth was doing the thing it did when she was fighting between composure and want, and want was winning.
“Rule six is non-negotiable?” she said.
“Rule six is the closing argument. You’ll get there.”
“And the ties are yours.”
“Bought them myself. With my own money. From my own business account. Which is solvent, by the way. Gerald sends his regards.”
The faintest smile. The one I lived for. “You bought silk ties to dominate me and you’re invoicing it as a business expense.”
“Gerald doesn’t ask questions about the ‘client relations’ line item.”
“And the…” She gestured at the vibrator without touching it. The gesture was uncharacteristically vague for a woman who was precise about everything. “That’s also a business expense?”
“That’s a visual aid. For the practical assessment portion of the review.”
Leela’s throat moved. She swallowed. The composure was holding, but the seams were visible — I could see her pulse in her throat, the darkening of her eyes, the way her fingers had tightened on the armrest of the reading chair.
“Color?” I asked.
“Green.” Immediate. No hesitation. “Very, very green.”
I walked around the desk. She tracked me the way she tracked opposing counsel in depositions — with the focused, alert attention of someone who knew they were about to be outmaneuvered and found it exhilarating.
“Stand up,” I said.
Leela stood. Six inches taller than me. Silver temples, dark eyes, the body of a woman who ran four miles every morning and ate lunch at her desk and held the entire professional world at arm’s length except for the one person she’d let inside the perimeter.
Me. I was inside the perimeter. And tonight the perimeter was mine to patrol.
“Give me your glasses.”
She handed them over. I folded them and set them on the desk. Then I reached for the hem of her henley and pulled it over her head. She wasn’t wearing a bra — she never did in the evening at home, and the fact that I knew this about her, that I’d memorized the domestic architecture of her body the way she’d memorized mine, still made my breath catch.
Her breasts were bare. Dark nipples already tight. I didn’t touch them yet. I could feel her wanting me to — her body angling forward by a fraction of an inch, the involuntary lean toward contact. I let the want build.
Instead, I traced my fingertips across her collarbone. Down her sternum. Between her breasts without touching either one. Down the center line of her stomach. She shivered — a full-body tremor that started where my fingers traveled and spread outward like a ripple in still water.
“Pants,” I said.
She pushed the lounge pants down herself. Underwear with them. Stepped out of both. Stood naked in front of me while I remained fully dressed in jeans and a button-down I’d chosen specifically because it had a lot of buttons, because I wanted her to watch me undo every single one when it was time.
I circled her. Slowly. Letting my eyes travel the full landscape of her body — the long legs, the narrow waist, the strong shoulders, the dark hair falling past them. I trailed my fingers across her back as I passed behind her. Down her spine. Over the swell of her ass — a light touch, almost accidental, that made her breath hitch.
“You’re inspecting me,” she said.
“I’m conducting a visual assessment. It’s standard procedure for quarterly reviews.”
“The results are extremely favorable.” I completed the circle. Stood in front of her again. “You’re stunning. I need you to know that I spent fifteen months thinking about every inch of your body and I still haven’t gotten bored. Not even close.”
Her jaw worked. The praise — my praise, directed at her instead of the other way around — landed somewhere vulnerable. She wasn’t used to being on this side of it.
I picked up the blindfold.
“Color?” I asked again. Because asking twice was not redundant. Asking twice was care.
“Green.”
I stood on my toes and slid the blindfold over her eyes. Tied it behind her head, careful not to catch her hair. The black silk settled across the bridge of her nose, turning the most observant woman I’d ever met into someone who could only feel.
“Sit in the chair,” I said.
She sat. The reading chair — our chair, the one where I knelt and she held me and the entire dynamic lived in the four feet between the velvet cushion and the worn leather seat. But the cushion was beside my desk at my apartment now. Tonight the chair held Leela and nothing else.
I picked up the navy tie. Lifted her left wrist. Kissed the inside of it — the same gesture she’d given me the first time, pulse point to lips, a ritual I’d learned from her and was now returning. Her pulse was hammering. I counted the beats against my mouth: fast, strong, alive.
I wound the silk around her wrist and secured it to the arm of the chair.
Right wrist. Same kiss. Same tie. Charcoal this time. She was bound to her own reading chair with silk she hadn’t chosen, in a position she hadn’t directed, and I could see the cost of it in her body — the slight tension in her jaw, the tendons in her forearms, the visible effort of not taking control.
“How does that feel?” I asked.
“Terrifying,” she said. “Don’t stop.”
I didn’t start with her mouth. I didn’t start between her legs. I started with her breasts, because I’d been thinking about them all day and because Leela had a sensitivity there that she tried to hide — tried to steer my mouth elsewhere, tried to maintain composure through the direct contact. Without sight, she couldn’t redirect. Without her hands, she couldn’t guide.
I leaned down and took her left nipple in my mouth.
The sound she made was immediate and uncensored — a sharp, shocked gasp that she would have swallowed if she could have seen me watching. I sucked slowly, rolling the stiffened peak against my tongue, and her back arched off the chair. I used my teeth — lightly, the barest graze — and she hissed through her teeth.
“Piper—”
“Rule two. Tell me what you feel. Not what you want me to do.”
“I feel — your mouth is — it’s making everything else disappear. My breasts are connected to — I can feel it between my legs. Every time you suck I get wetter and I can’t—”
I switched sides. Took the right nipple harder this time — more suction, more pressure, my tongue flicking rapidly while my fingers found the abandoned left breast and pinched. Not gently. Firm, rolling pressure that made Leela cry out and pull against the ties.
“I can feel it everywhere,” she gasped. “Your mouth and your fingers and I’m — I’m dripping. I can feel it on my thighs.”
“I know,” I murmured against her skin. “I can see it.”
I could. Even in the low lamplight, the evidence of her arousal was visible — slick on her inner thighs, glistening. The sight of it made my own body pulse with a want so specific it had its own heartbeat.
I pulled back from her breasts. She whined at the loss — an actual whine, from Leela Sethi, managing partner, the woman who never made a sound she hadn’t authorized. The blindfold was demolishing her filters one by one, and each filter that fell revealed something rawer and more beautiful underneath.
I knelt in front of the chair. Not on the cushion — on the bare floor, between her legs, my hands on her knees. I pushed her thighs apart. Wide. Wider than she’d have spread them on her own, wider than dignity would permit. She let me. The trust in the letting was the hottest thing I’d ever experienced.
I kissed her knee. Her inner thigh. The crease of her hip. The soft skin of her lower belly, where I lingered — pressing my mouth flat against the warmth, breathing her in, the scent of her arousal so concentrated I could taste it in the air before my tongue ever touched her.
“Tell me what you want,” I said against her skin.
“You know what I want.”
“Rule two. Reactions, not instructions. Tell me what you feel.”
A ragged breath. “I feel your mouth on my stomach and I want it lower. I feel your hands on my knees and I want them higher. I feel the silk on my wrists and I want—” She stopped. The composure cracked in real time. “I want you to stop making me wait. I want your tongue on my clit. I want your fingers inside me. Please.”
“You taught me that waiting is part of what you offer. Consider this a lesson returned.”
I lowered my mouth.
The first taste of her made my eyes close. Fifteen months and I still hadn’t developed a tolerance — still responded to the salt and musk and sharp, specific essence of her arousal like it was a compound engineered for my neurochemistry. I licked through her slowly, a long flat stroke from her entrance to her clit, gathering the wetness of her on my tongue, and Leela made a sound that I’d heard maybe three times in our entire relationship — a raw, uncontrolled moan that came from deep in her chest and vibrated through my mouth.
The blindfold was doing exactly what I’d designed it to do. Without sight, Leela couldn’t monitor my face, couldn’t read my expression, couldn’t anticipate what was coming. She was reduced to sensation. Pure input. No analysis, no strategy, no observation-as-control. Just my mouth and her body and the dark behind the silk.
I went down on her the way she’d taught me — with patience, with attention, with the sustained focus that built pleasure in layers rather than rushing toward collapse. I circled her clit with the tip of my tongue. Drew figure eights. Sucked gently, then firmly, then gently again. Each variation produced a different sound — gasps, moans, a choked “fuck” that sounded ripped from the bottom of her throat — and I cataloged every one.
Her hips were moving. Restrained by the chair, limited in range, rolling in tight circles against my mouth. Her hands pulled at the ties — not to escape, to grip. The silk creaked.
I slid two fingers inside her. She clenched around me immediately — wet and hot and impossibly tight, her body pulling me deeper with a desperate, involuntary suction that made my own clit throb in sympathy. I curled my fingers forward, pressing against the swollen spot on her front wall, and her spine arched off the chair so violently I had to press my free hand against her stomach to hold her down.
“Piper — oh God—”
“Tell me.”
“Your fingers are — the angle is — don’t change it, don’t — right there—”
“That sounded like an instruction. Should I stop?”
“Don’t you dare.”
I didn’t stop. I increased the pace — fingers thrusting deep on each stroke, curling on the withdrawal, the obscene wet sounds of her body around my hand filling the study. My tongue maintained the steady, relentless rhythm on her clit.
She was close. I could feel it — the tightening of her thighs around my head, the flutter of her walls clenching in rapid pulses around my fingers, the shift in her breathing from ragged to held.
I pulled back. Withdrew my fingers. Sat back on my heels.
Her whole body convulsed with the denial.
“Piper—”
“Rule three. You say my name when you come. I’m making sure you remember it.”
“I will murder you. I will draft the most meticulous murder contract ever written and I will execute it with extreme prejudice and—”
I picked up the vibrator from the desk. Clicked it on. The low, humming buzz filled the study.
Leela went silent.
“What is that,” she said. Not a question. A statement of recognition from a woman who couldn’t see the source but could identify the sound.
“Visual aid,” I said. “For the practical assessment.”
I pressed the vibrator against the inside of her thigh. Not where she needed it — three inches too high, buzzing against sensitive skin, the vibration traveling through her leg and into her core. She gasped. Her hips tilted, chasing the sensation.
“Piper, if you don’t put that where it belongs, I swear to—”
“Where does it belong?”
“Rule two. Tell me.”
“On my clit. I want it on my clit. I want it on my clit while your fingers are inside me and I want you to fuck me until I come so hard this chair breaks.”
My mouth went dry. Leela Sethi did not talk like this. The blindfold, the ties, the edging — all of it had stripped away the last of her filters, and what was underneath was a woman who wanted, nakedly and specifically and without a single revision.
I slid my fingers back inside her — three this time, the stretch making her gasp and bear down, her walls gripping me with a ferocity that pulled me deeper. I pressed the vibrator directly against her clit.
Leela screamed.
Not loudly — the sound was choked, strangled, trapped behind clenched teeth — but it was the most uncontrolled sound she’d ever made in my presence. Her hips bucked off the chair, driving my fingers deeper, grinding against the vibrator, and her hands wrenched at the ties so hard the chair legs lifted off the floor.
I fucked her with my fingers — deep, fast, relentless — while the vibrator maintained steady pressure on her clit. The dual stimulation was devastating. She was beyond language, beyond reactions, beyond anything resembling the composed woman who ran a law firm. She was just a body being taken apart, sound by sound, pulse by pulse, and I was the one doing it.
“You are brilliant,” I said, and the vibrator carried my voice into her body along with its own frequency. She sobbed. “You are terrifying and generous and the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. You taught me that structure could be love. You taught me that kneeling was strength. You taught me that I was enough.”
“Piper — please — I can’t—”
“You can. Come for me. Say my name.”
I curled my fingers deep, pressed the vibrator firm, and held.
She came with my name shattering in her mouth — Piper Piper Piper — her body seizing against the ties, her thighs clamping, the chair scraping across the hardwood as the orgasm tore through her with a force that was visible, seismic. Her walls clenched around my fingers in rhythmic, powerful contractions, and her entire body shook with waves that went on and on, each one dragging another broken syllable of my name from her throat.
I eased the vibrator away but kept my fingers inside, gentle now, feeling the aftershocks pulse and slow. She was trembling — the fine, total-body vibration of someone who’d been completely dismantled and was still locating the pieces.
I withdrew slowly. She whimpered at the loss. I brought my wet fingers to my mouth and tasted her, and even though she couldn’t see me do it, she heard — the soft, deliberate sound of me licking my own fingers clean — and her head fell forward and she made a noise that was half laugh, half sob.
“I’m going to untie you now,” I said. “And then we’re going to the bedroom. And I’m not done.”
“You’re not done?”
“Leela. I have a six-point agenda. We’re on point four.”
I untied the navy silk. Kissed her left wrist — the pulse point, our ritual. The charcoal tie. Right wrist. Same kiss. Her hands fell free, and she flexed her fingers, and I caught them and interlaced them with mine.
I reached behind her head and untied the blindfold.
Leela blinked. The study was golden with lamplight, and her eyes adjusted slowly — pupils blown wide, contracting as she focused on my face. She looked wrecked. Hair tangled, cheeks flushed, mouth swollen from biting her own lips. Tear tracks at her temples. The most beautiful she’d ever been.
“Hi,” I said.
“Hi.” Her voice was destroyed.
“Bedroom. Now.”
She stood on unsteady legs. I walked her out of the study and down the hall, and somewhere between the doorframe and the stairs I started unbuttoning my shirt. She watched my fingers work the buttons — watched with the focused, desperate attention of a woman who’d been restrained for twenty minutes and wanted to touch something so badly her hands were shaking at her sides.
“Rule five,” I reminded her. “You don’t touch me until I say.”
“Piper.” The word was plea, protest, and prayer.
“Soon.”
I led her into the bedroom. Pushed her gently toward the bed. She sat, then lay back at my nod, and I stood at the foot of the bed and finished unbuttoning my shirt with deliberate slowness.
I unhooked the bra. Dropped it.
Leela’s hands fisted in the sheets. The restraint of not reaching for me was costing her visibly — her arms were shaking, her jaw was clenched, her body angling toward mine like iron toward a magnet.
I unzipped my jeans. Stepped out of them. The underwear — black, matching, soaked through — came last. I slid them down my legs and stood naked at the foot of the bed, and Leela looked at me with an expression that made me feel like the only person in every room she’d ever entered.
“You can touch me now,” I said.
She lunged.
Her hands were on me before the sentence finished — pulling me onto the bed, onto her, her mouth finding mine with a ferocity that was entirely new. This was not Leela the dominant, not Leela the controlled. This was Leela starving. Her hands were everywhere — my breasts, my waist, my ass, gripping and releasing and gripping again, trying to touch everything at once because she’d been denied for too long and the flood gates were open.
I straddled her. Settled my wet center against her stomach and watched her eyes go wide at the evidence of how aroused I was — how aroused she’d made me, because getting her off while she was blindfolded and tied to a chair and begging my name had soaked me through without anyone touching me at all.
“Feel that?” I breathed, rocking against her skin. “That’s what your sounds do to me. That’s what watching you come does to my body.”
“Let me taste you.” Her voice was raw. “Piper, please — sit on my face — let me—”
The request hit me like a fist to the chest. Leela asking. Not instructing, not directing, not managing. Asking. Please.
I crawled up her body. Her hands found my thighs, guiding me, and I settled over her mouth with a shaking exhale that came from somewhere I didn’t know I had.
Her tongue was on me instantly.
Leela ate me out with the devastating precision of a woman who’d spent fifteen months learning my body and the unchecked hunger of someone who’d just been denied control. She gripped my thighs and pulled me down harder against her mouth and her tongue worked my clit in the rapid, focused pattern she knew would unravel me — the one she’d discovered in the second week and had been deploying with surgical accuracy ever since.
I braced my hands on the headboard and ground down against her face, and the sounds I made were not quiet. They were not contained.
Her tongue pushed inside me — deep, searching — then returned to my clit, circling, sucking. I looked down and saw her dark eyes looking up at me from beneath my body, her mouth slick with me, her expression one of pure concentrated devotion, and that visual broke something loose in my chest.
“Leela — I’m going to — I’m—”
She sealed her lips around my clit and sucked, firm and rhythmic, and I came with a cry that hit the ceiling. My thighs clamped around her head, my hands white-knuckled on the headboard, my hips jerking in uncontrolled spasms against her mouth as the orgasm crashed through me in waves so intense I couldn’t breathe through them.
I fell sideways. Landed on the bed gasping, boneless.
She rolled toward me. Face wet with me, silver hair mussed against the pillow. The smile on her face was the one I’d spent fifteen months earning — real, full, completely undefended.
“Point five?” she said.
“Give me thirty seconds.”
“Take sixty. I’m not going anywhere.”
I took forty-five. Then I pushed her flat on her back, pinned her wrists above her head with one hand, and kissed my way down her body.
I tasted every part of her. Her throat. Her collarbones. Her breasts — slower this time, gentler. Her ribcage. The plane of her stomach. The ridge of each hip bone.
When I reached between her legs, she was soaked again. I licked through her and she moaned, and the sound was different now — deeper, more desperate, the sound of a woman approaching her second orgasm knowing it would wreck her worse than the first.
I worked her with my mouth and my fingers simultaneously — tongue on her clit, three fingers inside her, the rhythm building in waves. Then I reached for the vibrator with my free hand and pressed it against her perineum from behind, the buzzing vibration traveling through the thin tissue and hitting her G-spot from the outside while my fingers pressed it from within.
Leela’s response was violent. Her back arched off the mattress, her hands flew to my hair, gripping, pulling, and she was making sounds that were animal and broken and beautiful.
“Come,” I said against her. “Come for me. Say my name. Let me feel you.”
She came harder than the first time. I felt it in my fingers — the clenching, the rhythmic contractions, the rush of heat and wetness — and I felt it in her voice, which broke on my name and kept breaking, Piper Piper Piper, and the orgasm rolled through her in successive waves that left her shaking and gasping and reaching for me.
I crawled up the bed. She pulled me into her arms and held me against her chest, and we lay there breathing together, slick with sweat and sex.
Her heart was hammering under my ear. Gradually, it slowed.
“You are,” she said, her voice a ruin, “an exceptional partner.”
“And the quarterly numbers?”
“The quarterly numbers are—” A laugh, wet and wrecked and the most beautiful sound on earth. “The quarterly numbers are historically, catastrophically, chair-movingly strong.”
“Chair-movingly isn’t a word.”
“I’m a managing partner. I can invent words.”
She laughed again — the real one, the full one — and kissed the top of my head.
“The blindfold,” she murmured against my hair. “I couldn’t see you. I couldn’t read you. I couldn’t anticipate. I just had to feel.”
“I know. That was the point. You spend your whole life reading rooms. I wanted you in a room you couldn’t read.”
“And the vibrator.”
“The associate.”
“You named it.”
“The saleswoman named it. I just adopted.”
“We are not calling it the associate in this house.”
“Too late. It’s on the refrigerator list.”
“Nothing about tonight is going on the refrigerator list.”
“Rule twelve: all chair-related incidents are documented for quality assurance purposes.”
She pulled back enough to look at me. Silver temples, dark eyes, the face I was going to wake up to for as many mornings as physics and biology would allow.
“I love you,” she said. Plain English. No contingency provisions. “I love you and you just made me come so hard the chair left marks on the hardwood, and I am never fixing those marks. They’re staying. Evidence.”
“Evidence of what?”
“Evidence that the most chaotic, brilliant, disorganized woman in New York walked into my study with silk ties and a business receipt and reminded me, again, that being out of control is the safest place I’ve ever been.”
I pressed my face against her chest and breathed her in and felt the particular, irreplaceable quiet that came from being exactly where I was supposed to be.
We ended up on the floor. Because we always ended up on the floor — it was our place, our tradition, the surface we landed on when the bed couldn’t contain what we generated together. I lay on top of her with the ties scattered across the carpet and the blindfold hanging from a doorknob somehow and the vibrator buzzing faintly under the bed where it had rolled during the transition.
“The quarterly review is concluded,” I announced into her collarbone.
“Performance rating?”
“Five out of five. Across all categories. Bonus points for the tongue work.”
“Bonus points aren’t in the rubric.”
“I’m adding an addendum.”
“Of course you are.” She wrapped her arms around me. “Draft me a form.”
She laughed — the real one, the full one — and held me on the floor of our bedroom with silk ties as evidence and hardwood scratches as precedent and the whole enormous, uncontracted, freely chosen future stretching out ahead of us like a sentence neither of us wanted to end.
The quarterly numbers were very, very strong.
