The Victory Lap
A Scoring My Publicist Bonus Chapter
by Isla Wilde
⚠️ Spoiler Warning: This scene takes place after the events of Scoring My Publicist. Read the full novel first.
The championship trophy sat on Dahl’s kitchen counter between a half-empty bottle of champagne and the vase of tulips that were finally, stubbornly dying.
Sage was in the shower. Dahl could hear the water running through the apartment’s thin walls, could hear her humming something tuneless and happy, and the domesticity of it—the shower, the humming, the champagne going flat because they’d been too busy kissing against the refrigerator to finish drinking it—made Dahl’s chest ache with the specific tenderness of a woman who had everything she wanted and was still learning to believe she was allowed to keep it.
They’d left the party early. Not because they were tired.
Sage was standing in the doorway. Towel around her waist. Nothing else.
“You’re staring,” Sage said.
“You’re half-naked in my doorway. Staring is the appropriate response.”
“Our doorway.”
“I want my prize.”
“Your prize is a trophy. It’s on the kitchen counter.”
“I don’t want the trophy. I want you out of this dress and underneath me. I want to make you come so hard you forget how to strategize.”
“I never forget how to strategize.”
“Challenge accepted.”
“Keep the heels on,” Sage said.
“I want to feel them on my back.”
Dahl stopped breathing.
“Tell me what you want,” Sage said.
“Your mouth. I want your mouth.”
Sage gave her everything.
“You can. One more. Give me one more.”
“You still know how to strategize?” she asked.
“I can’t feel my legs.”
“Then I win.”
“Your turn,” Dahl said.
“You earned a rest. But you asked for a prize. And I haven’t given it to you yet.”
“Come for me. Right now. I want to feel it.”
Sage traced the line of Dahl’s jaw with her fingertip. “You’re the best bad decision I ever made.”
“And you’re the worst idea I ever agreed to.”
“My worst idea won a championship.”
“My worst idea won everything.”
They fell asleep in the amber light. Tangled, naked, spent.
Champions. In every way that mattered.
