He said stay. I should have left. I didn’t.

Ethan Vale doesn’t break.

That’s why Meridian Elite sends him to Adrian Cross — billionaire, control freak, and the client who’s burned through every concierge they have. Adrian doesn’t want service. He wants to find the crack. The tell. The moment Ethan stops performing and starts being real.

Adrian Cross doesn’t ask.

He instructs. He expects. He pays for perfection and discards anything less. But Ethan doesn’t flinch under pressure — he sharpens. And Adrian’s obsession with breaking him turns into something far more dangerous: wanting to keep him.

One late night. One command Ethan didn’t have to obey. One touch that neither of them can take back.

Now the lines aren’t blurred — they’re gone. And what’s left is a power dynamic built on desire, not money. On choice, not contract. On two men who’ve spent their lives controlling everything except this.

He was my client. Then my obsession. Then the only person I stopped performing for.

TOP TIER SERVICE — a high-heat MM romance about control, surrender, and the price of wanting something money can’t buy.

Chapter 1: Ethan

The briefing said difficult. They all say difficult.

I straightened my tie in the elevator mirror at 6:47 AM, thirteen minutes before anyone else would arrive at the Meridian Elite offices on the forty-second floor of a building that didn’t bother putting its name on the lobby directory. If you needed to know what was here, you already knew. If you didn’t, the brushed-steel elevator panel would carry you past our floor without stopping.

My reflection looked exactly the way it was supposed to. Dark hair cut close at the sides, longer on top, pushed back with just enough product to survive a twelve-hour day without moving. Charcoal suit, slim cut, no pocket square because pocket squares said trying. White shirt, no pattern. Watch — steel, not gold, because gold said given to me. Everything calibrated to project one message: I am better at this than you are at whatever you do, and I will never make you feel that.

Meridian Elite occupied a single floor and employed nineteen people, all of whom existed to make the lives of obscenely wealthy individuals run without friction. We weren’t assistants. We weren’t butlers. The company literature said lifestyle architects, which was the kind of phrase that made me want to stick a fork in my eye, but it wasn’t wrong.

I was the best at it. Not arrogance — math. Highest client retention rate in the firm for three consecutive years. Zero reassignment requests.

Diana Nakamura was already in her office when I passed, which meant something was happening.

“Ethan.” She didn’t look up from her screen. “Sit down.”

I sat.

“Adrian Cross.”

The name landed with the specific weight of something I was supposed to recognize. I did — peripherally. Private equity, old money layered under new money, the kind of wealth that didn’t show up on magazine covers because it didn’t need the publicity.

“He’s been with us for two years,” Diana said, turning her screen toward me. “Four concierges. Average tenure: six weeks.”

“Complaints?”

“None.”

That was worse. Complaints meant a difficult client. No complaints meant the concierges broke without being able to articulate why.

“He doesn’t want a concierge. He wants to see if you’re worth his time.”

The building was on the Upper East Side. I rode up forty-one floors alone, reviewing the file. Adrian Cross. Forty-one years old. Net worth undisclosed but estimated north of two billion. Unmarried. No publicly known partners. Social presence: nearly zero.

The elevator opened directly into the penthouse foyer.

The first thing I noticed was the silence. Not the absence of sound — active silence, the kind that costs money.

The third thing I noticed was him.

Adrian Cross stood at the floor-to-ceiling windows with his back to me, looking out over the city like he owned that too. Tall. Broader than I’d expected. Dark hair, silver at the temples. Charcoal trousers, white shirt, sleeves rolled to the forearm. No tie. No shoes.

The bare feet were disarming. A man in a two-thousand-dollar shirt and no shoes.

“Mr. Cross.” I kept my voice even. “Ethan Vale, Meridian Elite.”

“I know who you are.”

His voice was lower than I’d anticipated. Quiet, unhurried, with the particular diction of a man who’d never had to repeat himself.

He turned around. His face was still. Not blank — composed. Eyes that were some indeterminate shade between gray and green, sharp enough that meeting them felt like making contact with something electrical.

He looked at me the way I imagined a surgeon looked at an X-ray. Not at the surface. Through it.

I walked him through the standard onboarding. He gave me nothing. Most people leak. Adrian Cross sat in perfect stillness and listened with his entire body, and the only thing I could read was that he was reading me with significantly more skill than I was reading him.

“Any immediate needs for the week?”

“No.”

“Then I’ll —”

“Stay.”

The word landed like a hand on my chest. Not loud. Not aggressive. Just certain, the way gravity is certain.

“I’m not finished deciding about you.”

Four minutes of silence. Four minutes where his gaze stayed on me with an attention so focused it felt like being touched. My skin prickled under my collar. I became aware of my own breathing in a way I hadn’t been thirty seconds ago.

“Tomorrow,” he said. “Same time.”

I stood in the elevator as it descended forty-one floors and listened to the sound of my own breathing, which was faster than it should have been. Not from fear. Not from anger.

From being seen.

He looked at me like I was a problem he hadn’t solved yet. I should have hated it.
