She followed the money. He followed her.
Claire Bennett is a careful, quiet bookkeeper who notices things other people miss. When she finds a $340,000 discrepancy buried in her firm’s books, she assumes it’s a clerical error. It’s not. It’s the first thread in a $14.7 million money-laundering operation โ and pulling it puts a target on her back.
Victor Vale is the morally gray fixer brought in to handle the mess. He’s polished, dangerous, and very good at making problems disappear. He was supposed to manage Claire โ assess her, contain her, decide if she was a threat or an asset.
He wasn’t supposed to fall for the woman who reads spreadsheets like other people read poetry. He wasn’t supposed to care that she takes her coffee black with two sugars and checks her bank balance every morning. He wasn’t supposed to pin her against a window and kiss her like his life depended on it.
But Claire doesn’t just follow the money. She follows the truth. And the truth is that the man who should scare her is the only one who’s ever made her feel safe โ and the only one who calls her good girl in a voice that makes the word feel like the most dangerous promise she’s ever been offered.

Chapter One
Three hundred and forty thousand dollars doesn’t just vanish.
Money isn’t like keys or socks or the half-eaten granola bar Claire was almost certain she’d left in her desk drawer. Money leaves a trail. Every dollar that enters a system has to exit somewhere โ through a ledger, a wire, a receipt, a tax filing. That’s the beauty of accounting. It’s math with consequences. Numbers don’t lie unless someone makes them.
And someone had made these lie.
Claire pushed her glasses up the bridge of her nose and leaned closer to the monitor, the blue glow washing out whatever color remained in her face at four-thirty on a Thursday afternoon. The quarterly reconciliation for Ashford Capital’s Meridian subsidiary fund was supposed to be routine. She’d done it eleven times before โ twelve quarters of matching inflows to outflows, cross-referencing wire confirmations, flagging the occasional misbooked expense. It was tedious work, the kind that made other people’s eyes glaze over and made Claire feel like the world made sense.
Except today, it didn’t.
The discrepancy had started small. A $47,000 transfer out of Meridian’s operating account into an entity she didn’t recognize โ Lakeview Holdings LLC. She’d checked the vendor list. Not there. Checked the approved payee register. Not there either. Checked the intercompany transfer log, which should have captured any movement between Ashford’s various funds and subsidiaries.
Nothing.

The Audit โ A scene TOO HOT for Amazon
Victor surprises Claire at her new office with a very specific kind of performance review. Her desk. His rules. The kind of audit that ends with her name on his lips and her back on the balance sheets. Praise kink at maximum. Explicit. Emotional. The scene that proves the ledger is still open.
