Chapter One: Opening Hit
The kid scored like gravity didn’t apply to him.
Brick watched from the bench as Evan Park took the puck behind the net, deked around Marchetti—who outweighed him by forty pounds—and came out the other side with his stick already loaded. One stride. Two. A snap of the wrists so fast the goalie didn’t flinch until the red lamp was already on.
The arena went nuclear. Eighteen thousand people on their feet, the horn blasting, the goal song shaking the glass. Brick didn’t stand.
