Eleven insurance claims. One very patient adjuster. Zero professional boundaries.
Nate Calloway is a walking insurance claim.
In the past year alone, his apartment has flooded four times, his ceiling has collapsed twice, his car got destroyed by a runaway shopping cart, and his breaker panel tried to set him on fire. He is not cursed. He is not negligent. He is simply, statistically, cosmically unlucky — and his insurance company is running out of adjusters willing to deal with him.
Owen Park doesn’t rattle.
The senior claims adjuster assigned to Nate’s disaster file is calm, precise, and professionally unshakable — the kind of man who brings a level to a ceiling assessment and color-codes his grocery list. He expects a fraud case. What he gets is a man in shark-print boxers standing in two inches of water, making jokes about his own catastrophe because if he doesn’t laugh, he’ll break.
Owen keeps showing up. Nate keeps breaking things. And somewhere between the fourth water-damage assessment and the night Owen drives across town at three a.m. to fix Nate’s breaker panel, the line between client and the man I can’t stop thinking about dissolves completely.
The problem: Owen’s company has a strict no-fraternization policy with active claimants. And Nate is the most active claimant in the tristate area.
He assessed my damage. Then he wrecked me completely.
BAD LUCK, GOOD LAY — a high-heat MM romance about chaos, control, and the man who makes every disaster worth it.

Chapter One: The Eleventh Claim
The pipe under Nate Calloway’s kitchen sink had been making a sound like a dying cat for three days. He’d mentioned it to his landlord. He’d mentioned it to the internet. He’d even mentioned it to the pipe itself, crouching on the linoleum at two in the morning with a flashlight between his teeth, saying, “Don’t you dare.”
The pipe dared.
He was standing in two inches of water, wearing boxers printed with cartoon sharks and exactly one sock—the left one, which was now so waterlogged it made a squelching sound every time he shifted his weight.
It was Vivaldi. The Spring movement. Nate had heard it so many times over the past fourteen months that he could hum the violin part from memory.
“Your call is important to us,” the recording assured him, with the breezy confidence of someone who had never stood in their own kitchen watching their laptop bag float past their ankles.
His apartment was a one-bedroom on the third floor of a building that had been described in its listing as “character-rich,” which Nate now understood to be real estate code for “everything in here is forty years old and quietly plotting against you.”
He’d lived here for three years. In that time, he had filed eleven insurance claims.
Eleven.
