The earl inherited a title, a decaying estate, and a family obligation. Then he hired an American with paint on his trousers and very irresponsible ideas about both architecture and pleasure.
When Adrian Vale, the Earl of Ashcombe, inherits a crumbling Cotswolds estate, he has one goal: save the house without becoming another tragic aristocrat rattling around a museum alone. His solution is practical. Quiet. Respectable.
Then he hires Nico Rossi.
The American restoration designer has opinions about everything — velvet, old stonework, the criminal waste of a twelve-bedroom manor on “tasteful corporate retreats,” and the fact that His Lordship has the most beautiful hands Nico has ever seen on a man who clearly hasn’t been touched in years.
Nico’s plan is to turn Ashcombe Hall into an adults-only, queer-inclusive escape — weddings, art weekends, workshops, and a ballroom painted the exact shade of green that makes the earl’s left eye twitch.
Adrian thinks it’s outrageous. He also thinks about Nico’s mouth more than any employer should.
As renovation deadlines, village gossip, and a ruthless family trustee threaten everything, Adrian has to decide whether he wants to preserve the life he inherited — or finally start living one worth having.

Chapter One: Nico
The Cotswolds were trying to kill me, and they were doing it with charm.
Every village I’d driven through in the last hour looked like it had been assembled by someone who’d Googled “English countryside” and then committed to the bit with frightening sincerity. Honey-colored stone. Thatched roofs. A pub called The Fox and Hound that I was ninety percent sure had been placed there by a set designer. Even the sheep looked art-directed — arranged on rolling green hills in compositions that would’ve made a Renaissance painter weep.
Meanwhile, I was white-knuckling a rental Vauxhall that handled like a shopping cart, my GPS had given up three roundabouts ago, and I was fairly certain I’d just driven through someone’s actual front garden.
“Recalculating,” said the GPS, with the tone of a woman who had stopped believing in me.
“You and me both, sweetheart.”
