The thing about a perfect wedding venue is that it makes you stupid.
I knew better. I’d been doing this long enough to know that “charming lakeside lodge” was code for “structural liability with a cocktail license.”
But Cedarvale Lodge was so goddamn pretty that I forgot to be suspicious.
I pulled into the gravel lot at golden hour because I’m not above manipulating my own emotions. The main lodge sat at the top of a gentle slope, all dark timber and wide windows, the kind of building that looked like it had opinions about craft beer.
It was the kind of place that made people believe in love at first sight, which was convenient, because that was literally what I was selling.
