Office Hours: After Dark (Part 2)

Harper’s eyes tracked down Elise’s body — the buttoned blazer, the blouse, the trousers still perfectly in place, the composed professional exterior that gave no visual indication of what the woman inside had just been doing on the floor.
“Take off your clothes,” Harper said. The student-voice was gone. This was the woman who had stood in Elise’s kitchen and said I fell in love with the woman who reads forbidden desire for a living. This was the woman who had filed a supervisor change and knelt on an office floor and written a thesis conclusion that had cracked Elise’s defenses like a wrecking ball. “All of them.”
“That’s not how this —”
“The evaluation format has changed.” Harper slid off the desk. Steady now — steadied by the orgasm, by the certainty, by the specific confidence of a woman who had been thoroughly satisfied and intended to return the favor. “The student is presenting her independent research. The professor will observe.”
Harper crossed the office and pushed Elise backward, step by step, until Elise’s calves hit the leather couch — the couch where they’d almost kissed a year ago, where the thesis pages had scattered, where the air had been so charged that Harper could feel it on her skin like static.
“Sit down, Professor.”
Elise sat.
Harper stood over her. Pulled the green sweater over her head and dropped it. Unclasped the black lace bra — the one she’d chosen specifically because it would drive Elise crazy — and let it fall. She stood bare-chested in the lamplight of the office, and Elise’s mouth went dry looking at her, the same way it had gone dry the first time and every time since: the body she’d memorized, the body that still surprised her, the specific way Harper’s nipples hardened under Elise’s gaze as if the looking itself were a touch.
“Your independent research,” Harper said, kneeling between Elise’s legs. “Thesis statement: Dr. Elise Rowan, the most composed woman in American academia, is capable of losing all composure when properly motivated.” She unbuttoned Elise’s blazer. Pushed it off her shoulders. “My methodology involves direct experimentation.”
“Your methodology is unorthodox.”
“My methodology is going to make you scream.”
Harper’s hands found Elise’s blouse. She unbuttoned it with the one-handed efficiency she’d developed over a year of practice and pulled it free, and Elise was in her bra and trousers on the leather couch, and Harper’s mouth was on her throat, her collarbone, the swell of her breast above the cup.
“I’ve been thinking about this all week,” Harper murmured against Elise’s skin. She unclasped the bra. Drew it off. Took Elise’s nipple in her mouth and sucked, and Elise’s head fell back against the couch and her hand found Harper’s hair. “I’ve been thinking about you in this office. At your desk. Grading papers in your reading glasses with your sleeves rolled up. Looking like a fantasy I shouldn’t be having.”
“You can have any fantasy you want.” Elise’s voice was roughening. Cracking at the edges. “You earned that.”
“Then I want this one.” Harper’s hand went to Elise’s trousers. Unclasped. Unzipped. Elise lifted her hips and Harper pulled everything down — trousers and underwear together — and Elise was naked from the waist down on the leather couch in her own office, and the air was cool on her thighs and she was wet, embarrassingly wet, she’d been wet since the email, since the knock, since the moment Harper walked through the door in the green sweater and called her Dr. Rowan.
Harper knelt on the floor between her legs. Settled herself. Looked up at Elise from the angle that had started everything — the same angle as the first night, the office floor, teach me — and the visual rhyme was so precise, so deliberately constructed, that Elise felt a spike of emotion beneath the arousal that had nothing to do with sex and everything to do with the life she’d built with this woman.
“Teach me,” Harper whispered. The original phrase. The callback. The words that meant I trust you and I want you and I chose you and I’m not afraid.
“You don’t need teaching anymore,” Elise said. Her voice cracked. The game was dissolving at the edges, the fiction giving way to the fact, the roleplay yielding to the real.
“I know.” Harper pressed a kiss to Elise’s inner thigh. Then the other. “But I still like hearing you say it.”
She put her mouth on Elise and performed her thesis defense.
It was not tentative. It was not uncertain. It was the work of a woman who had spent a year conducting primary research on this specific subject and was now presenting her findings with the absolute confidence of a scholar who knew her material cold.
Harper licked Elise with broad, flat strokes that covered the full length of her, gathering the wetness, tasting her, making appreciative sounds that vibrated against sensitive flesh. Then she narrowed her focus — tongue circling Elise’s clit in tight, precise rotations, the pressure building in increments, each pass slightly firmer than the last, the patience of someone who had all night and intended to use every minute.
Elise’s composure — already damaged, already hanging by threads — came apart.
She had spent forty years being controlled. Disciplined. A woman who modulated her voice in lecture halls and measured her words in faculty meetings and managed her body’s responses with the same ruthless precision she brought to everything. And Harper had spent twelve months systematically dismantling that control, one orgasm at a time, until the composed Professor Rowan and the undone woman beneath her were no longer separate people but the same person, experienced simultaneously.
“Harper — God — your mouth —”
Harper hummed against her, a sound of pure satisfaction, and slid two fingers inside. Elise’s hips left the couch. Her hand fisted in Harper’s hair. The leather creaked beneath her. Harper’s fingers curled inside her, finding the spot she’d learned months ago, the specific angle that made Elise’s brain go white, and her tongue maintained its rhythm on Elise’s clit — steady, relentless, the perfect counterpoint to the fingers working inside her.
“You taste incredible,” Harper said against her. “Every time. I could do this for hours.”
“I won’t — ah — last hours —”
“Then let go.” Harper’s free hand slid up Elise’s stomach, over her ribs, and cupped her breast. Thumb circling her nipple in the same rhythm her tongue was using below. Three points of contact — mouth, hand inside, hand on her breast — a coordinated assault on Elise’s senses that was too much and exactly enough. “Let me hear you, Professor. Nobody’s listening. Nobody’s watching. Just me.”
Elise came with a sound she would never have permitted in any other context — a raw, guttural cry that contained Harper’s name and several words she’d never used in a professional setting and a depth of surrender that would have terrified her a year ago and now felt like coming home.
The orgasm was enormous. It started where Harper’s mouth was and radiated outward — through her pelvis, her spine, her limbs, the back of her skull — in waves that kept coming, each one pulling another sound from her throat, her body clenching around Harper’s fingers in rhythmic contractions that Harper rode with patient, devoted attention.
She came for a long time. Long enough that the waves overlapped, cresting before the previous one had finished receding, building into a sustained plateau of sensation that made her vision spark and her thoughts dissolve into white noise. Harper didn’t stop — didn’t ease up, didn’t change the rhythm, just maintained the exact pressure and pace with the discipline of a woman who had learned that Elise’s body could go further than Elise’s mind thought possible, and who took personal pride in proving it.
When it finally subsided — gradually, reluctantly, like a tide pulling back from a shore it was finished reshaping — Elise lay on the leather couch with her eyes closed and her chest heaving and her entire body tingling with the specific, bone-deep satisfaction of being completely, catastrophically undone.
Harper crawled up beside her. Kissed her temple. Her cheek. The corner of her mouth. Pulled the throw blanket from the arm of the couch and settled it over them both and held Elise against her chest and stroked her hair and said nothing, because nothing needed to be said.
They lay tangled on the leather couch — half-dressed, the throw blanket inadequate, the office disheveled around them like the aftermath of a natural disaster. Manuscripts on the floor. Reading glasses under the desk. The green sweater draped over the podium. The scent of sex and cedar and bergamot in the warm air.
“So,” Harper said eventually, her mouth against Elise’s hair. “How was my performance?”
“Exceeds expectations.” Elise’s voice was destroyed. Rough and raw and profoundly satisfied. “Significantly.”
“Only ‘significantly’?”
“You’ll need to schedule additional office hours for a comprehensive evaluation.”
“Professor Rowan, are you suggesting extracurricular activity?”
“I’m suggesting extra credit, Ms. Quinn.” Elise tilted her head up. Kissed Harper — slow, thorough, the kiss of a woman who had been thoroughly satisfied and intended to express her gratitude at length. “As much as you can handle.”
“I can handle a lot.”
“I’m aware. It’s why I gave you the highest grade in the department.”
“You didn’t give me a grade. You transferred my supervision.”
“Because if I’d kept supervising you, I would have done this—” she pulled Harper closer, her hand sliding down Harper’s bare back to her ass, squeezing, proprietary, “—approximately three months sooner, and my career would be over, and we would be having this conversation in a less prestigious office.”
Harper laughed. The sound filled the room — warm, bright, the laugh of a woman who was exactly where she wanted to be with exactly the person she wanted to be with, and who had earned both through courage and patience and the absolute refusal to pretend she didn’t want what she wanted.
“I love you,” Harper said. “I love you in this office and in your kitchen and in the bed we share and in every room you’ve ever been too careful to want me in.”
“I love you too.” Elise pressed her forehead against Harper’s. “I love you recklessly and without caveats and in direct violation of every risk assessment I’ve ever conducted.”
“That’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever said to me.”
“I know. I’m furious about it.”
They held each other on the leather couch while the campus settled into evening around them, and outside the tall windows the lampposts clicked on one by one, and the building was quiet, and the door was locked, and the woman who had once been too careful to want was lying in her own office with the woman she loved, wearing nothing but a throw blanket and the specific, irreplaceable expression of someone who had stopped performing and started living.
Harper’s hand found Elise’s beneath the blanket. Laced their fingers together.
“Same time next week?” Harper asked.
Elise smiled against her hair. “I’ll clear my schedule.”
The office was dark and warm and full of the particular silence that existed after two people had said everything that mattered with their bodies and were content, for now, to say nothing at all.
Every rule Elise Rowan had ever followed had led her here.
The only transgression left was how goddamn happy she was.
