Carley Fortune Books in Order: Barry’s Bay, Standalones & What’s Next (2026)
Carley Fortune books in order is a short list with a lot happening in it. Six novels, three of them set in the same Ontario lake town, five of them New York Times bestsellers, and in 2026 the screen finally caught up: Every Summer After became the Prime Video series Every Year After in June, it was renewed within three weeks, and Netflix is filming This Summer Will Be Different for 2027. Below is every Carley Fortune book in publication order with a spoiler-free hook, the Barry’s Bay books explained, where to start, what’s new (Our Perfect Storm, May 2026), what’s next (Only in Summer, May 2027) and hotter picks for when you’ve read them all.

Carley Fortune Books in Order: Where to Start
Start with Every Summer After. It’s her debut, it’s the book the Prime Video series is built on, and it’s the purest version of what she does: a then-and-now structure, a lake, a first love and a single mistake that keeps two people apart for a decade. If you want her steamiest, go to This Summer Will Be Different. If you want her newest, Our Perfect Storm stands completely alone and was a number-one bestseller out of the gate.
Every Fortune novel follows a new couple to its own ending, so you can read them in any order. The exception worth planning around is Barry’s Bay: One Golden Summer returns to the town and the family from Every Summer After, and the 2027 book does it again, so those three are best read in sequence.
Carley Fortune Books by Mood
Want the one that will make you cry on a dock: Every Summer After. Want the one where the heroine has a whole life to fix before she can fall in love: Meet Me at the Lake. Want the best friend’s brother and the most heat: This Summer Will Be Different. Want a quieter, warmer return to the lake with an older couple: One Golden Summer. Want friends to lovers with a cancelled wedding and a honeymoon suite: Our Perfect Storm. If you read Abby Jimenez or Christina Lauren for the feelings, our Abby Jimenez books in order and Christina Lauren books in order guides pair well with this one.
The Barry’s Bay Books in Order
Barry’s Bay is a real cottage town in Ontario and the place Fortune grew up. It’s the setting of her debut, her 2025 novel and her next one, and the Florek family runs through all three.
- Every Summer After (2022): Percy Fraser, an obituary writer, goes back to Barry’s Bay for a funeral and comes face to face with Sam Florek, the childhood best friend she fell in love with over those lake summers and hasn’t spoken to in years. The chapters move between past and present, and the thing that broke them is held back until it hurts. Our list of books like Love and Other Words points here first for a reason.
- One Golden Summer (2025): Alice, a photographer, comes to Barry’s Bay to recapture the magic of one teenage summer and runs straight into Charlie Florek, Sam’s older brother. It’s a return to the town and the family from the debut, and Prime Video has already picked it as the basis for Every Year After’s second season.
- Only in Summer (May 18, 2027): the third Barry’s Bay book follows Eleanor Florek, Charlie and Sam’s cousin, who buys a cottage in town and learns the little house next door is about to be bulldozed for a monster lake house. Announced for 2027 and already up for preorder.
Read these in order. The payoff of One Golden Summer is seeing the Floreks ten years on, and that only lands if you’ve lived through Percy and Sam first.
The Standalones in Order
- Meet Me at the Lake (2023): Fern and Will meet while each of them is dating someone else, and don’t see each other again for about ten years, when he turns up at the lake in Muskoka. Messy, improbable and grown-up, it’s her most divisive book and a Canada Reads 2024 selection. Prince Harry and Meghan’s Archewell optioned it for a Netflix film in 2023.
- This Summer Will Be Different (2024): Lucy flies to Prince Edward Island for a holiday, has a fling with a local named Felix, and finds out he’s the younger brother of her best friend Bridget. Every summer visit after that is a test she keeps failing, until Bridget bolts from Toronto a week before her own wedding and Lucy follows her to the island. Fortune has called it her steamiest book, and it’s the one Netflix is turning into a series.
- Our Perfect Storm (May 5, 2026): Frankie Gardiner and George Saint James have been best friends their whole lives, with exactly one kiss between them that neither of them mentions. When Frankie gets engaged to Nate, an older professor, George objects, they fight, and he agrees to be her best man anyway. Then Nate walks out before the wedding with nothing but a cryptic letter, the honeymoon in Tofino is already paid for, and George goes in his place. It debuted at number one on the New York Times list. Our list of books like Our Perfect Storm has the readalikes.
On heat, Fortune is open door and moderate, around 3 chilis, with a few on-page scenes per book and the emotion doing most of the work. This Summer Will Be Different runs hottest, and Our Perfect Storm keeps the slow burn going for a long time before the honeymoon suite earns its name.

What’s Next for Carley Fortune: Every Year After, Netflix and 2027
Every Year After, the Prime Video adaptation of Every Summer After, dropped as a full-season binge on June 10, 2026, with Sadie Soverall as Percy, Matt Cornett as Sam and Michael Bradway as Charlie, Elisha Cuthbert in the cast and Amy B. Harris as showrunner. Fortune executive produced. Less than three weeks later, on June 27, Prime Video renewed it at its Obsessed Fest fan event and confirmed that season two will adapt One Golden Summer. No premiere date yet.
Netflix greenlit This Summer Will Be Different as a ten-episode series in March 2026. Dane Clark and Linsey Stewart are the showrunners, Fortune is adapting and executive producing, and the cast announced in September includes Sophie Nélisse as Lucy, Roby Attal as Felix, Francesca Reale as Bridget, Malin Akerman as Aunt Stacy and Megan Follows as Cheryl. It’s shooting in Toronto and on Prince Edward Island, and a 2027 release is expected.
Meet Me at the Lake is the slow one. Archewell, Prince Harry and Meghan’s production company, picked up the film rights in August 2023 under their Netflix deal. In June 2026 Fortune said the project is still in development, with a director attached and the script being revised. No cast, no date.
On the page, Only in Summer arrives May 18, 2027 from Berkley. Until then, Our Perfect Storm is the one to read.

Do you need to read Carley Fortune’s books in order?
No. Each novel follows a new couple to its own ending. The one exception is Barry’s Bay: read Every Summer After before One Golden Summer, and both before Only in Summer in 2027, because the Florek family carries across all three.

Every Summer After. It’s her debut, the start of the Barry’s Bay books and the basis for the Prime Video series. If you want the hottest, start with This Summer Will Be Different.
How spicy are Carley Fortune’s books?
Open door but moderate, around 3 chilis, with This Summer Will Be Different the steamiest by Fortune’s own account. Our romance spice levels guide explains the scale; every Fractal Enigma pick above is Inferno.
Is Meet Me at the Lake becoming a movie?
It’s in development as a Netflix film from Prince Harry and Meghan’s Archewell Productions, which optioned the book in 2023. As of mid-2026 Fortune says a director is attached and the script is still being revised; nothing has been cast or dated. Every Summer After is already on Prime Video as Every Year After, and This Summer Will Be Different is filming for Netflix.
