Four attorneys. Two opposing sides. One rule nobody intends to obey.
Greer Sloane has spent six years trying to defeat Danica Frost in court. She has also spent six years remembering the kiss Danica pressed against her mouth in a courthouse elevator before walking away without a word.
Now they are opposing counsel in a billion-dollar lawsuit, and a federal judge has ordered both legal teams to a secluded coastal estate for three weeks of mandatory settlement negotiations.
Greer expects heated arguments and sleepless nights across the table from the woman she cannot stop wanting. She does not expect to discover that her senior partner, Leander Vale, has been secretly involved with Danica’s tattooed second chair, Ilias North.
The four negotiate a private arrangement. No secrets. No professional information shared. No using jealousy as leverage. No one becomes secondary. But courtroom rivals make dangerous lovers, and every pairing among the four becomes more intense than the last.
When confidential evidence surfaces in the wrong legal files, suspicion divides the group along professional lines. Proving who planted it could save their clients and destroy every career in the house.
Four attorneys entered as opposing counsel. They may have to leave as partners in every meaning of the word.

Chapter One: Opposing Counsel
The Meridian Hotel Group had been bleeding money for fourteen months, and Greer Sloane had never been more excited about anything in her life.
She stood at the window of her corner office on the thirty-second floor of Vale, Sloane & Mercer, watching the late-afternoon sun catch the glass towers of downtown and feeling the particular hum of anticipation that only arrived when a case was about to consume her entirely.
She turned from the window and picked up her pen — platinum, heavy, engraved with her initials in a font so small only she could read it. A gift to herself when she had made junior partner at thirty-two.
Her phone buzzed. Leander’s name on the screen.
“Tell me you have the forensic accountant’s report.”
“I have something more interesting.” His voice carried its usual measured cadence — unhurried, precise, the verbal equivalent of his perfectly knotted ties. “Regency Pinnacle has changed lead counsel.”
“Changed how? Rothberg’s been on this since filing.”
“Rothberg’s firm lost the Pinnacle board’s confidence after the last motion. They’ve retained new representation.” A pause. The kind Leander deployed when he wanted her to brace for something. “Frost, North & Bell.”
The pen pressed into the paper hard enough to leave an impression three pages deep.
“Danica Frost will lead. Ilias North is second chair.”
The scar on her right hand — the thin pale line crossing the base of her thumb where she had shattered a champagne flute during law school celebrations — went white as her grip tightened.
Danica Frost. Six years of depositions, motions hearings, settlement conferences, and bar association events. Six years of facing that silver-streaked dark hair and those unreadable green-brown eyes across courtrooms, conference tables, and — once — across thirty inches of empty space in a courthouse elevator while the floors counted down and Greer’s entire understanding of her own desire rearranged itself without her permission.

After the Gala — A scene TOO HOT for retailers
One year later. The Fairmont gala. Four names on the door, four people in formal clothing, and a conference table that serves dual purposes. Suit jackets on four chairs. The lock clicks. Every pairing. Every combination. The christening that never made it into the epilogue — because some celebrations are too explicit for retailers.
