She paid for a week. She got a lifetime.

Victoria Ashford is a billionaire CEO who hasn’t let anyone close in twenty years. When she books a discreet “vacation girlfriend” service for a week on a private island, she tells herself it’s just companionship. Just control. Just another transaction.

Maya Reyes is a broke MFA student with $218 in her bank account and $87,000 in student debt. She signs up for the service because she needs the money. She checks the “intimacy included” box at 2 a.m. after three glasses of wine because she’s never been with a woman and she’s tired of pretending she doesn’t want to be.

The chemistry is instant. The sex is electric. And by day three, neither of them can pretend this is just a transaction.

Victoria has spent her life proving she doesn’t need anyone. Maya has spent hers minimizing what she deserves. On a private island in Belize, with seven days and a ticking clock, they’ll discover that the most dangerous thing you can do with a paid arrangement is fall in love inside it.

When the week ends, Victoria leaves a check on the nightstand and disappears. Maya goes home to her tiny apartment and writes the novel that’s been building inside her. But some transactions refuse to stay closed. And some women refuse to stay gone.

Chapter One: The Price of Company

The call came in at 11:47 a.m., somewhere over the Gulf of Mexico, and Victoria Ashford handled it the way she handled everything—precisely, ruthlessly, and without raising her voice.

“Tell Hargrove his counteroffer is an insult.” She crossed her legs and watched the clouds slide beneath the jet’s window, white and shapeless and utterly indifferent to the fact that a $400 million acquisition was unraveling in real time.

Thirty-nine years old. Net worth north of $800 million. Founder and sole managing partner of Ashford Capital. She’d been profiled in Forbes twice, Bloomberg three times, and she owned a penthouse on Central Park West with seven bathrooms and no one to share any of them with.

She picked up her phone again. Not for work this time.

The app was discreet—no logo, no name on the home screen, just a matte gray icon she’d buried in a folder labeled Utilities. She opened it. The confirmation email sat where she’d left it, read fourteen times since she’d booked three weeks ago. Seven nights. Female companion. Full intimacy package. Confirmed.

She’d used the service twice before. Both times, she’d requested men. This time was different. She’d sat in her office at two in the morning, three fingers of Macallan on her desk, and she’d changed the gender preference.

She’d told herself it was curiosity. That was also complete bullshit, and she knew it.

Isla Serena was the kind of place that existed specifically for people who’d gotten bored of every other luxury on earth. Twenty private villas on a 200-acre island. Staff-to-guest ratio of four to one. The kind of rules that cost $15,000 a night to enforce.

The villa was two stories of white stone and dark wood, cantilevered over a cliff edge so the upper deck seemed to float above the ocean. Victoria stood in the center of the main room and breathed.

She unpacked methodically. Designer swimwear. Silk pajamas. A single dress for dinners. She showered, then walked to the terrace doors, still dripping, and stood naked in the warm air and looked at the ocean.

She was aware of her body in a way she rarely allowed herself to be. The water drying on her collarbones. The air on her breasts. The specific, persistent ache between her legs that had everything to do with what she’d booked, what she’d chosen, what was arriving tomorrow morning in the form of a woman she’d never met.

Her phone buzzed. The companion update. A photo: a young woman sitting on a porch step, laughing at something off-camera. Dark curly hair. Brown skin that caught the sunlight. A wide, unguarded smile. She was wearing a yellow sundress and she looked like the kind of person who talked to strangers in grocery stores and meant it.

Victoria stared at the photo for a long time. Longer than was professional. Then she set the phone face-down, sank deeper into the plunge pool, and finished her wine.

Tomorrow, a woman named Maya would arrive. She would be young and warm and paid to be here, and Victoria would set the rules the way she always set the rules, and for seven days she would have what she was too proud and too afraid to seek in her real life: company. Touch. The illusion of being wanted.

She told herself that was enough. That she was not the kind of woman who needed more.

The stars didn’t argue.
