Alexis Hall Books in Order: London Calling, Winner Bakes All, Spires & More (2026)
Alexis Hall books in order is a bigger job than most Boyfriend Material fans expect. The English author has written contemporary rom-coms, Regency romps, a gaslamp mystery with a sorceress, a paranormal investigator series, an explicit billionaire trilogy and, in 2026 alone, a space-monster-hunting novel, a reverend’s story called Never After and Father Material, the third Luc and Oliver book, out June 2. Below is every Alexis Hall series in reading order with a spoiler-free hook, which books connect, where to start depending on what you want, the full publication list and hotter MM picks for when you’ve read them all.

Alexis Hall Books in Order: Where to Start
Start with Boyfriend Material. It’s the book that made Hall a bestseller, the start of London Calling, and the clearest version of what Hall does best: an anxious disaster of a narrator, a buttoned-up love interest, dialogue that makes you laugh out loud in public and real feeling underneath. If you’d rather start with a cozy ensemble, Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake opens the baking-show series. If you like your romance historical and silly, A Lady for a Duke or Something Fabulous.
Hall’s catalog splits into small series of two to four books plus a lot of standalones. Inside London Calling and Arden St. Ives, read in order because the same couple carries across the books. Everywhere else, each book is its own couple and the order is a nice-to-have.
London Calling in Order
- Boyfriend Material (July 7, 2020): Luc O’Donnell, a rock star’s son and a tabloid disaster, needs a respectable boyfriend to fix his image and keep his job. Oliver Blackwood, a painfully proper barrister, agrees to fake it for reasons neither of them fully understands. Our books like Boyfriend Material guide has the trad readalikes.
- Husband Material (August 2, 2022): Luc and Oliver are together for real, and a run of weddings and a lot of social pressure push them toward a commitment neither is sure how to make.
- Father Material (June 2, 2026): book three. Luc and Oliver adopt a puppy, Spud, and the question of whether their family should get bigger stops being theoretical.
Boyfriend Material is closed door at the big moments, with the heat in the banter. If that restraint is what you love, our Fractal Enigma picks for Boyfriend Material fans keep the fake dating and open the door.
Material World
- 10 Things That Never Happened (October 17, 2023): after a fall, Sam Becker fakes amnesia, and his boss, Jonathan Forest, has to confront his guilt over how he’s treated him. Workplace, grumpy boss, a lie that gets out of hand. The start of its own series, with a second book listed but not yet dated.
Winner Bakes All in Order
Set around Bake Expectations, a fictional British baking competition. Each book follows a different contestant.
- Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake (May 18, 2021): Rosaline, a single mother, goes on the show and is torn between charming Alain Pope and Harry Dobson, a shy electrician. MF.
- Paris Daillencourt Is About to Crumble (November 1, 2022): Paris, an anxious baker, gets on the show and falls for fellow contestant Tariq Hassan. MM, and the most tender book in the series.
- Audrey Lane Stirs the Pot (December 2025): Audrey, a journalist who has walked away from a high-powered job, ends up at Bake Expectations and is drawn to producer Jennifer Hallet. Sapphic.
Spires in Order
Hall’s first contemporary MM world: darker and more literary than the rom-coms, with For Real the most explicit.
- Glitterland (2013): Ash Winters, a depressed former literary golden boy, meets Darian Taylor, a loud, joyful man who makes him feel alive again.
- Waiting for the Flood (2015): Edwin Tully, a quiet academic, finds new hope when a flood brings Adam Dacre, who works for the Environment Agency, into his life. Possibly Hall’s gentlest book.
- For Real (2015): Laurie Dalziel, a jaded BDSM veteran, and Toby Finch, a fierce nineteen-year-old who wants more than Laurie will allow. Age gap, kink, and very explicit.
- Pansies (2016): Alfie Bell, successful in London, returns to his hometown and reconnects with Fen, the school rival he once hurt.
Arden St. Ives in Order
- How to Bang a Billionaire (2017): Arden St. Ives, an Oxford student, starts an affair with billionaire Caspian Hart, who has very strict rules. Hall’s queer answer to Fifty Shades, and explicit.
- How to Blow It with a Billionaire (2017): Arden tries to earn Caspian’s trust without settling for less than he deserves.
- How to Belong with a Billionaire (2019): Caspian leaves, and Arden insists he’s going to have to fight for this.
Hall’s Historicals: The Something Books, A Lady for a Duke and Mortal Follies
- Something Fabulous (January 25, 2022): Valentine Layton, a duke, chases the runaway Arabella and finds himself drawn to her twin, Bonny Tarleton. Regency farce.
- Something Spectacular (April 11, 2023): Peggy Delancey helps Belle woo the opera singer Orfeo and finds her own connection with him.
- Something Extraordinary (December 17, 2024): Sir Horley Comewithers is abducted by his friend Arabella on the eve of his wedding, and the road to Gretna Green changes his plans.
- A Lady for a Duke (May 24, 2022): Viola Carroll reconnects with Justin de Vere, the grieving Duke of Gracewood, and old feelings come back. A hero lost in grief, a heroine who has built a new life, and one of Hall’s most beloved books.
- Mortal Follies (June 27, 2023): Miss Maelys Mitchelmore is cursed and turns to Lady Georgiana Landrake, a woman rumored to be a witch, to lift it. Sapphic Regency fantasy.
- Confounding Oaths (August 27, 2024): Mr. John Caesar teams up with Captain James to rescue his sister Mary from the fair folk. The second Mortal Follies book.
If the Regency side is your favorite, our sapphic historical romance from Evelyn Ashcombe runs in the same era with the heat turned up.
Kate Kane, Prosperity and the Speculative Books
- Kate Kane, Paranormal Investigator: Iron & Velvet (2013), Shadows & Dreams (2014), Fire & Water (2020), Smoke & Ashes (2020). A hard-drinking, half-fae paranormal investigator takes jobs from vampire royalty and keeps getting dragged into magical wars.
- Prosperity: Prosperity (2014), There Will Be Phlogiston (2014), Liberty & Other Stories (2015). Steampunk skytowns in 1863 and a lot of aether.
- The Affair of the Mysterious Letter (June 18, 2019): Captain John Wyndham and the sorceress Shaharazad Haas investigate a blackmail case in a very strange city. Weird, funny and queer.
- Hell’s Heart (March 10, 2026): a crew of space monster hunters goes after the Möbius Beast above Jupiter. Queer sci-fi with a sharp critique of capitalism.
Contemporary and Other Standalones
- Sand and Ruin and Gold (2014), a short fiction collection.
- Looking for Group (2016): Drew and Kit, whose relationship starts in an online game.
- Murder Most Actual (November 9, 2021): Liza and Hanna, a married couple, get trapped in a murder mystery at a hotel in the Scottish Highlands.
- Never After (April 7, 2026): Micha Dashwood, a young man recovering from illness, is taken in and cared for by the Reverend Thomas Mandeville.
- The Hopeless Romantic’s Guide to Enchantment (September 15, 2026), a twelve-story romantasy anthology from Titan with a Hall contribution.
