Crowns of Nyaxia Reading Order: Every Book, Novella & What’s Next (2026)
Crowns of Nyaxia reading order looks simple until you hit the two books with no number on the spine. Carissa Broadbent’s vampire romantasy is built as three linked duets, Nightborn, Shadowborn and Bloodborn, with a novella and a standalone novel tucked between them, and the fifth main book, The Lion and the Deathless Dark, arrived in August 2026. Below is the publisher’s recommended order, where Six Scorched Roses and Slaying the Vampire Conqueror fit, every book with a spoiler-free hook, the heat level, what we know about book six and hotter picks for after.

Crowns of Nyaxia Reading Order: Where to Start
Start with The Serpent and the Wings of Night. Oraya is the human adopted daughter of the Nightborn vampire king, which in a world of predators makes her prey with a crown on. Her one chance at becoming more is the Kejari, a deadly tournament held in honor of the goddess of death where the only rule is kill or be killed. She is outmatched, so she makes an uneasy alliance with Raihn, her father’s sworn enemy and her toughest rival, and the line between hunter and prey stops holding. Our books like The Serpent and the Wings of Night list has the readalikes.
Each duet follows a new couple, so you could technically start the Shadowborn books without the Nightborn ones. Don’t. The world, the gods and the politics build across all of them, and the later books assume you know what happened in the Nightborn books.
The Recommended Crowns of Nyaxia Reading Order
- The Serpent and the Wings of Night (2022, Nightborn Duet 1): Oraya, Raihn and the Kejari.
- Six Scorched Roses (2023, novella): a desperate woman bargains with vampires for a cure, in a Beauty and the Beast-inspired story about Lilith and Vale. Set between the two Nightborn books.
- The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King (2023, Nightborn Duet 2): a grieving Oraya has to choose between seizing power and a love that could destroy her.
- Slaying the Vampire Conqueror (April 2023, standalone novel): Sylina, an assassin, infiltrates a vampire conqueror’s army to kill him and finds a connection she did not plan for. The publisher suggests reading it after book two.
- The Songbird and the Heart of Stone (2024, Shadowborn Duet 1): Mische, forcibly turned into a vampire, joins Asar on a quest to resurrect the god of death.
- The Fallen and the Kiss of Dusk (August 5, 2025, Shadowborn Duet 2): Asar and Mische go after the power of the death god so Asar can ascend to divinity, through mortal and immortal realms, while the gods prepare for war.
- The Lion and the Deathless Dark (August 4, 2026, Bloodborn Duet 1): Kyrene, a bounty hunter who carries a sword blessed by the goddess of justice, commits a crime that puts mortals and gods on her trail. Her only way out is a deal with Septimus, a silver-tongued vampire prince and her enemy, who has one last job for her: kill the gods.
- Crowns of Nyaxia Book 6 (untitled, TBA, Bloodborn Duet 2): the final book of the main series.
The Duets Explained
Nightborn Duet (Oraya and Raihn): the tournament books. Enemies to allies to lovers, a human surviving among vampires and a father whose protection is its own kind of cage. This is the pair most readers fall for first.
Shadowborn Duet (Mische and Asar): a newly turned heroine and a damaged hero on a quest into the business of gods and the dead, with the mythology turned all the way up.
Bloodborn Duet (Kyrene and Septimus): the current duet. A vengeful human bounty hunter, a vampire prince with dangerous secrets, prophecies, curses and a plan to kill gods in a world where blood is the only currency. The second book will close the main series.
Where the Novella and the Standalone Fit
Neither is required, and both are better than “optional” makes them sound. Six Scorched Roses is short, self-contained and set between the two Nightborn books; read it there for the best context, or any time after book one. Slaying the Vampire Conqueror is a full standalone novel in the same world; the publisher places it after The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King, but it works at almost any point. If you want the tightest possible run, read the six main books and come back to these two afterward.
Publication order and the recommended order differ in only one spot: Slaying the Vampire Conqueror came out in April 2023, before The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King, but it is a separate couple in a separate corner of the world, so nothing is lost by moving it later. If you are reading on Kindle and want to skip the guesswork, the cleanest path is Serpent, Roses, Ashes, Conqueror, Songbird, Fallen, Lion.
One more practical note: the duets end on real cliffhangers at the halfway point, not at the end. The first book of each pair leaves the couple in a bad place on purpose, so if you are buying as you go, pick up both books of a duet together. Readers who finish the Nightborn books and want another long, bloody romantasy series with the same protector-or-predator tension should look at our Blood and Ash reading order next.
How Spicy Is Crowns of Nyaxia?
Moderate, and slow to start. Broadbent writes long slow burns with open-door payoffs, a handful of explicit scenes per book rather than a scene every few chapters, around 🌶️🌶️🌶️. Biting, blood and the push-pull of predator and prey carry a lot of the tension. The violence is heavier than the sex: tournament deaths, war and some brutal set pieces. Our romance spice levels guide explains the scale.
