The thing about walking to the ring is that nobody can touch you.
Thirty thousand people on their feet, screaming my name or screaming for Nessa Doyle to knock my teeth down my throat, and not a single one of them can reach me. The bass from my entrance track rattled through the floor of the arena and up through my shins, and I rolled my shoulders inside the black and crimson robe and let the sound swallow me whole. The camera crane swung past my face. I didn’t flinch. I stared into it like I was daring the lens to look away first.
It did.
They always do.
I am Amara Knox. I am the Crownline world super-middleweight champion. I am undefeated, I am five-foot-eleven in flat feet, and I have knocked out women who outweighed me by ten pounds and still hit the canvas looking confused about what happened.
