Lights Out Spicy Chapters: Every Scene, Heat Level & Content Warnings (2026)
Lights Out spicy chapters start in the first act and keep coming until the epilogue. Navessa Allen’s masked-stalker romance rates 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Inferno on our five-chili scale: fully explicit, kink-forward, and built around nine spicy chapters (counting the epilogue) in a 26-chapter book. It’s for readers who want dark romance where the danger is a game both players agreed to, with a trauma nurse who unwinds by watching masked men online and the masked man who decides to give her exactly what she keeps asking for. The timing is good: Into Darkness is now a finished trilogy, with Game On, the third book, out March 31, 2026, after Caught Up in June 2025, so you can binge all three. Below: the chapter-by-chapter list, content warnings, how it compares to the other big dark romances, the reading order, and a bonus scene from our own shelf for when you want the hunt to run even hotter.

Is Lights Out Spicy?
Yes, and not in a two-scenes-and-a-fade kind of way. Lights Out is explicit from the video phase onward, with knife play, bondage, sensory play and masked role-play all on the page and all negotiated between Aly Cappellucci and Josh Hammond before they happen. The first physical scene lands in chapter 8, the first full in-person scene in chapter 11, and from there you get a scene roughly every three to five chapters, with the most elaborate one saved for chapter 25.
Lights Out Spicy Chapters List
Chapter numbers below were cross-checked against two chapter-level guides and a Goodreads buddy-read thread. Descriptions are kept non-graphic and spoiler-light. The book has 26 chapters plus an epilogue.
- Chapters 2 to 5: the message-and-video phase. Aly’s drunken message gets a reply, Josh sends a recorded video that is the first explicit content in the book, and Aly’s solo reaction follows. Explicit, but no physical contact yet. (One guide starts the heat at chapter 2, another at chapter 4; both agree chapter 5 counts.)
- Chapter 8: the drive home. The first physical scene, in a moving car, with a knife involved and a consequence that needed stitches. Explicit and chaotic, and the moment readers tend to quote first.
- Chapter 11: the first full scene. Josh comes to Aly’s home, mask on, and the role-play they’ve been circling finally plays out in person. Explicit and long. This is the chapter most readers mean when they ask where the spice starts.
- Chapter 14: a comfort scene turns into a dominance scene on her bed, knife included. Explicit, with the primal edge turned up.
- Chapter 15: bondage and sensory play, and the knife-handle chapter readers warn each other about. Explicit and one of the kinkiest in the book.
- Chapter 16: not a sex scene, but the hinge of the book. The first unmasked kiss, and the night Aly finds out who the masked man really is, after a violent encounter with a side character.
- Chapter 20: the shower scene. Explicit, softer than the earlier chapters, and the first time it reads like a couple rather than a game.
- Chapter 25: the red-lit room. Bondage and role-play on a bigger stage than anything before it. If you only reread one chapter, this is the one. Explicit, and the longest scene in the book.
- Epilogue: an outdoor scene in a cold stream. Explicit and short, the trilogy’s first happy-for-now sealed with one last hunt.
Content Warnings
Allen puts a full list at the front of the book and it’s worth reading. In brief: consensual stalking and break-ins written as a negotiated game, masked primal and chase play, knife play with blood and an accidental injury, bondage and sensory deprivation, an attempted sexual assault by a side character and a death that follows it, a serial-killer parent and the fear of inherited violence, organized crime in the back half, emergency-room medical detail, and a third party quietly watching the couple. The sex is explicit; the dark themes are real but the hero never crosses the heroine’s consent.
How Spicy Is Lights Out Compared To…
- Caught Up (Into Darkness #2): 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Inferno. More scenes than Lights Out (one chapter guide counts fourteen spicy chapters) and a slower, more intense build. Readers split on which book is better; most agree this one is hotter.
- Game On (Into Darkness #3): 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Inferno. Spicier than both earlier books by most counts, with around ten scenes and an enemies-to-lovers fake-girlfriend setup.
- Butcher & Blackbird (Brynne Weaver): 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Explicit. The other dark rom-com everyone pairs with Lights Out. Fewer scenes, a later start (around chapter 16), and a lot more blood.
- Haunting Adeline (H.D. Carlton): 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Inferno, but much darker. Same stalker fantasy with the consent removed. If Lights Out was your ceiling for dark, stop here.
- Twisted Love (Ana Huang): 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Explicit. Possessive hero, no mask, no knives. Lights Out is hotter and far kinkier.
Read the Series in Order
Into Darkness is three interconnected standalones, each with its own couple and its own happy ending, and they read best in publication order because the side characters carry over. Start with Lights Out (February 2024, Aly and Josh), then Caught Up (June 2025, Lauren Marchetti and Nic “Junior” Trocci, a ten-years-later reunion built around a mob family and a play club called Velvet), then Game On (March 31, 2026, Tyler Neumann and Stella McCormick, enemies to lovers with a fake-girlfriend scheme inside her family’s social circle). When you’re done, our list of books like Lights Out covers the rest of the masked-man shelf, and the best stalker romance books guide sorts the subgenre by how dark it gets.

If You Wanted It Hotter: A Fractal Enigma Bonus Scene
Lights Out ends with a hunt in a cold stream. If that epilogue was your favorite chapter, the book below runs on the same engine, a dangerous man who was supposed to hurt her and chose to chase her instead, and it has an exclusive bonus chapter on our site that runs hotter than anything the retailers would print.
The Hollow Hunt — Lucian Gray
He was sent to kill her. He gave her a head start instead. Elara Vance has spent two years being invisible, first in a house with a man who treated her body as proof of ownership, then as a hotel housekeeper who learned to disappear into the wallpaper. When she witnesses something she shouldn’t, the organization sends Silas, and the most dangerous man she has ever met becomes the only thing standing between her and the people who want her dead. A dark MF romance thriller where the hunter turns protector, free with Kindle Unlimited.
The bonus scene: “Snowbound” picks up six months after the book, with Silas and Elara shut in by weather and finally safe enough to play. It’s the primal, possessive side of the hunt with the brakes off: rough intimacy, marking, praise, and a scene that is, in the site’s own warning, significantly more explicit than the main book. Read the novel first; the bonus spoils the ending.

The Witness He Kept — Isla Wilde
He was hired to erase her. He kept her instead. Sloane Mercer is a forensic accountant who doesn’t round anything off, and six days into an audit she finds twelve identical payments, one for every worker who died. Dorian is the fixer who built the frame around her, and the boatyard safehouse he hides her in is where the job stops being a job. Light bondage, praise, scar worship and a hero whose devotion has a body count. Also in audiobook, and with its own bonus chapter, “Released,” set on the day he comes home.
Heat: Inferno 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Tropes: Fixer × Witness, Safehouse, Forced Proximity, Morally Grey Hero, Touch Her and Die, Praise Kink, Light Bondage, Control/Surrender, Romantic Suspense

Good Girl, Press Play — Aurora North
The Lights Out premise, the woman who has been listening to a stranger in the dark for months, flipped sapphic. Nora Voss is thirty-eight, reads every lease, labels her cable ties, and has never once said what she wants out loud. The only place she’s ever been loud is alone, with a voice in her headphones. Then that voice moves in on the other side of her wall. Voice kink, praise, instruction, thin walls and a late-bloomer awakening, all Inferno.

FAQ: Lights Out Spicy Chapters
What chapter is the spicy scene in Lights Out?
The first full in-person scene is chapter 11. The first physical scene is the car in chapter 8, and the first explicit content (a video, then Aly alone) arrives between chapters 2 and 5. The biggest set piece is the red-lit room in chapter 25.
How many spicy scenes are in Lights Out?
Nine spicy chapters including the epilogue, eight of them with physical contact once you’re past the video phase. Most run long, and several involve knives, rope or a mask.
Is Lights Out dark?
Dark in theme, light in tone. There’s stalking, knife play, a serial-killer parent and organized crime, but the stalking is a game Aly asked for, the book is funny, and the hero never violates her consent. Readers who found Haunting Adeline too much usually get on fine with this one. Our romance spice levels guide explains how we separate heat from darkness.
Is the sequel spicier?
Yes. Caught Up has more scenes and a more intense build, and Game On, the 2026 finale, is spicier than both. Lights Out is still the funniest of the three and the one most readers pick as their favorite.
