The wall was lying to me.
I knew it the way I always know — something in the sound when I knocked, a hollowness that didn’t match the blueprint. Six seasons of ripping open houses had trained my ear better than any engineering course, and this wall was hiding something behind its cheerful coat of builder-beige paint.
“Maddox.” Solon’s voice came through my earpiece, clipped and precise, the way he sounded when he was about to say something I wouldn’t like. “That wall is not in the demo plan.”
“The demo plan didn’t know about this wall.”
“The demo plan was finalized. By me. Yesterday.”
I grinned at Camera Two. “Folks, if you’ve been watching Room for Improvement for any length of time, you know what happens when Price finalizes a plan.”
“Keir—”
