She came to fix my stats. She stayed to wreck my life — in the best way.
Rae Donovan is the grumpy, elite pro softball pitcher everyone’s written off. Once the face of the league, she’s coming off a disastrous season with control issues, a broken release point, and the ghost of an abusive college coach still screaming in her head. She doesn’t need help. She doesn’t need analysis. She definitely doesn’t need the new data nerd with the wire-rimmed glasses and the calm voice that makes her feel things she hasn’t felt in years.
Dr. Camila “Cami” Reyes is the team’s new Head of Performance Science — a Stanford PhD who left baseball after a male colleague stole her research and got the credit. She’s brilliant, precise, and done with men’s sports politics. When she starts analyzing Rae’s mechanics, she sees something nobody else does: the ace isn’t broken. She’s locked up. And the key isn’t more grinding — it’s praise. Specific, targeted, honest praise that makes Rae’s body respond in ways that go far beyond the bullpen.
Their sessions become rituals. The data debriefs become foreplay. The praise kink becomes a love language. And somewhere between the film room and the bedroom, two women who swore they didn’t have room for love build something that rewrites both their lives — if the HR department, the media, and their own demons don’t destroy it first.

Chapter One: First Pitch, Last Straw
The ball left Rae Donovan’s hand wrong.
She knew it the instant her fingers released the seams—felt the rotation skid sideways instead of snapping over the top, felt her wrist angle go lazy by two degrees, felt her whole goddamn body betray her on the biggest stage in women’s pro softball.
Opening Day. Austin Aces. Forty-two hundred fans packed into Aces Stadium, the March sun hammering down on the turf, the smell of fresh chalk and overpriced nachos and hope thick in the air. The kind of day she used to own.
The changeup hung.
Not a little. Not a subtle miss that only she and the catcher would notice on film later. It hung like a fucking piñata, belt-high and spinning at a speed that basically begged to be destroyed. She watched the Dallas batter’s eyes widen—that split-second of recognition, that oh-shit-it’s-Christmas moment—and then the crack of the bat was the loudest sound in the stadium.
The ball cleared the left-field wall by twenty feet. Three runs scored.
Rae stood on the mound, glove at her side, and watched the ball disappear into the parking lot beyond the fence while the Dallas runners trotted around the bases in that infuriating, leisurely jog that said we didn’t even have to try.
The crowd noise shifted. Not booing—not yet—but that worse thing. That uncertain murmur. That collective inhale of a fanbase recalibrating its expectations in real time.
She’s supposed to be the ace.
Wasn’t she bad last year too?
How much are we paying her?
Rae could hear the thoughts even if the words didn’t carry. She’d been hearing them all winter, in her own head, in a voice that sounded a lot like a coach she used to have. A voice that had no business still taking up space in her skull at thirty years old but had apparently signed a lifetime lease.
You’re soft. You’re done.

The Analysis — Cami’s Wedding Night — A chapter-length scene TOO HOT for Amazon
The wedding guests are gone. The string lights are fading. And Rae Donovan is standing in the kitchen doorway with her tie loosened and three years of love in her eyes. What happens next is the scene that was too explicit, too emotional, and too filthy for Kindle — the full wedding night from Cami’s POV, where the woman who always sets the pace finally lets go.
