Their romance was scripted. The rules they broke were not.
Damaris King is a thirty-year-old action star whose career is on fire — and not in a good way. When an edited video makes it look like she humiliated a young actress at a private party, her studio demands an immediate reputation overhaul.
Elena Shaw is a forty-eight-year-old crisis publicist who has spent twenty years cleaning up celebrity disasters without becoming one. She proposes a carefully controlled fake relationship with a respectable woman who can soften Damaris’s reckless image.
Damaris rejects every candidate and announces that Elena should play the girlfriend herself.
The rules are simple: public affection is scripted, private rooms remain professional, and the arrangement ends after the premiere. Then practice kisses become private lessons. Shared suites become unavoidable. Elena’s quiet approval affects Damaris more deeply than applause from thousands of fans.
As the public falls in love with them, Elena discovers the scandal was manufactured by someone inside Damaris’s own team. Exposing the truth could save Damaris’s career — but reveal that the most convincing celebrity romance of the year stopped being fake almost immediately.

Chapter One: Viral
The phone hit the floor at 4:47 a.m.
Not gently. The vibration walked it off the nightstand in three furious pulses, and by the time I reached over the edge of the mattress, the screen was already lit with Saskia’s name and the kind of call volume that meant she’d tried more than once.
I answered face-down on the pillow. “Someone better be dead.”
“Don’t go online.”
I went online.
Seventeen million views. That was the number on the video when I opened it, and it ticked to seventeen million and twelve thousand by the time I finished watching ninety seconds of my own career disintegrate.
The clip was beautifully edited. I’ll give them that. Whoever cut it understood pacing — the slow zoom on my face contorted with fury, my hand jabbing toward a dark-haired girl who looked approximately twelve years old and terrified, the sharp cut to me striding away while she stood alone in the corridor, shaking, mascara tracking down both cheeks. No audio. Just subtitles provided by some creative genius at a gossip outlet who’d apparently learned to lip-read from a dartboard.
“You’re pathetic.”
“You think you belong here?”
“Don’t follow me.”
I sat up in bed and watched myself become the worst person on the internet.
The comments were a masterclass in collective judgment. Narcissistic predator. Pick-me bully. This is what happens when studios give difficult women power. Someone had already screenshotted the frame where my mouth was open widest and turned it into a template — DAMARIS KING WHEN SHE SEES A RISING STAR WHO MIGHT THREATEN HER RELEVANCE, with seventeen variations already making the rounds.
Saskia was still on the line. I could hear her breathing. “Dam. Talk to me.”
“It’s not what it looks like.”
“I know that. The internet doesn’t.”
I pressed my thumb against my eyebrow scar hard enough to feel the ridge of old tissue. It’s what I do when I’m calculating the distance between what happened and what people will believe, which is a measurement I’ve been taking my whole adult life.
“How bad?” I asked.
“Your name is trending in fourteen countries. The studio’s switchboard crashed twenty minutes ago. And Oliver’s already called me twice asking whether you’ve ‘done anything impulsive.'”
“Oliver can eat my entire—”
“He’s on his way over.”
“Of course he is.” I swung my legs over the side of the bed. My apartment — the one that cost more than my parents’ house and still felt like a hotel I’d checked into five years ago and forgotten to leave — was quiet in the way that expensive places are quiet at five in the morning. Soundproofed. Climate-controlled. No evidence of the seventeen million people currently watching me ruin a girl’s night.
What actually happened at that party was so far from the video that it would have been funny if Maeve Lockhart’s face wasn’t burned into my retinas. Not the face from the footage. The real one. The one I saw when I found her in that corridor with her pupils the size of dinner plates and her words coming out sideways and a forty-six-year-old producer’s hand on her elbow, steering her toward a room with no windows.
I hadn’t screamed at Maeve. I’d screamed at him.
But that part wasn’t in the video. Funny how that works.

The Mirror — A scene TOO HOT for Amazon
Six months after the premiere, Damaris and Elena move into their Hampstead house. The bedroom mirror arrives. Elena removes every piece of jewelry. Damaris watches in the reflection. And the christening of their new home begins with the same word that started everything: Hold still. Praise kink, mirror play, and the filthiest, most tender scene in the series.
