She hired a wedding planner. She fell in love with the wrong person at the altar.
Cass Harper has planned 312 weddings without a single disaster she couldn’t fix. She’s legendary for her calm, her precision, and her ability to turn any crisis into a champagne toast. She’s also spent five years building walls so high that no one gets close enough to crack them.
Then Emma Blake walks into her studio with a Pinterest board, a distracted fiance, and a smile that’s holding back an ocean.
Emma is the perfect bride on paper—organized, enthusiastic, deeply invested in the details. But underneath the performance, she’s drowning. Her engagement was a default, her dress was her mother’s dream, and the life she agreed to is suffocating her in ways she can’t name until a jaded wedding planner with silver-streaked hair and rolled sleeves looks at her and asks the one question nobody else has bothered with:
What would this wedding look like if nobody’s opinion mattered but yours?
The answer changes everything.
What starts as professional chemistry becomes stolen glances, late-night studio sessions, and the kind of tension that makes the air between them feel like a live wire. When they finally cross the line, it’s not a mistake—it’s a detonation. And Emma has to decide: walk down the aisle toward a life she doesn’t want, or burn it all down for the woman who taught her what wanting actually feels like.

Chapter One
The groomsman hit the cake at 6:47 p.m., thirteen minutes before the first dance.
Cass saw it happen in slow motion—the way disasters always unfolded at weddings, as if the universe wanted her to appreciate every excruciating frame. Tyler (groomsman number four, three bourbons deep, clip-on bow tie already hanging loose) stumbled backward from a too-enthusiastic bro-hug and caught the edge of the cake table with his hip. The five-tier buttercream masterpiece—hand-piped peonies, gold leaf accents, sixteen hundred dollars of somebody’s parents’ money—wobbled once, twice, and began its slow, catastrophic lean.
Cass was already moving.
She crossed twelve feet of dance floor in heels she’d been standing in for nine hours, caught the second tier with her left hand, and braced the base with her right knee against the table leg. Buttercream smeared across her blazer sleeve. A peony crumbled against her thumb.
“Margot,” she said, her voice perfectly level, as if she were ordering coffee. “Bring me the offset spatula from the catering kit. And a wet cloth. And tell Tyler to sit down before he takes out the gift table next.”
Her assistant materialized beside her in three seconds, spatula in hand, because Margot Chen had worked with Cass long enough to keep emergency cake-repair tools within sprinting distance.
“Tier two has a dent,” Margot murmured, holding the base steady while Cass eased the leaning tier back into position.
“I can see the dent.”
“It’s kind of a big dent.”
“Margot.”
“Shutting up.”
Cass smoothed the buttercream with three precise strokes of the spatula, rebuilt the crushed peony from a backup sugar flower she’d stashed in the catering kit that morning—because she always packed backup sugar flowers—and stepped back. The cake looked immaculate. Her blazer did not.
She stripped it off, folded it over her arm, and turned to find the mother of the bride staring at her with the wide-eyed look of a woman who’d just watched her life savings almost splatter across a parquet floor.
“All good, Mrs. Ashford. Just a little wobble.” Cass smiled—warm, calm, completely in control. “Cake’s perfect. Let’s get your daughter on that dance floor.”
Mrs. Ashford exhaled a breath she’d probably been holding since the ceremony. “You’re a miracle worker.”
“I’m a planner,” Cass said. “Miracles are just contingencies that work out.”

Twenty Minutes Later — The morning after their first real date. Emma wakes up in Cass’s bed alone, panics, then hears music from the kitchen. Cass is making coffee in a t-shirt and nothing else, singing badly. Counter sex, burned eggs, and the drawer conversation from Cass’s POV. A scene TOO HOT for Amazon.
