Her ex’s sister. Her former one-night stand. The wedding planner who could ruin everything.

Pippa “Pip” Morales is a chaotic bisexual baker whose micro-bakery is one dead oven away from closing. When a luxury wedding planner offers her a contract that could save everything, Pip signs without hesitation — until she learns the bride is the ex who broke her heart, and the ruthlessly organized wedding planner is the bride’s older sister: the woman Pip had one unforgettable night with three years ago.

Sutton Vale has built her career on making impossible events look effortless. She has not built a career on managing the devastating, inconvenient, absolutely unprofessional attraction she feels for a five-foot-three baker who trails flour like a comet and makes her want to stop controlling everything for the first time in her life.

Six weeks. One wedding. A secret affair that was supposed to stay casual and became the most real thing either of them has ever felt. When the countdown hits zero, they’ll both have to choose: safety or each other.

Chapter One: Cake, Meet Knife

The cock was listing to the left.

Not catastrophically — nothing that would ruin the structural integrity of a five-tier bachelorette cake shaped like a rhinestone-studded corset with an anatomically enthusiastic topper — but enough that Pippa Morales had been driving with one hand on the wheel and the other braced against forty pounds of buttercream and fondant for the last eleven blocks through Williamsburg, muttering a prayer to every saint her abuela had ever invoked and a few she was fairly certain she’d invented.

“Stay with me,” she told the cake. “We’re almost there. Four more blocks. Don’t you dare shift.”

The cake did not respond, because it was a cake, but the penis topper wobbled ominously as the van hit a pothole on Bedford Avenue, and Pip lunged sideways to steady it with her palm, steering with her knee through an intersection she absolutely should not have been steering through with her knee.

This was fine. Everything was fine. She’d been delivering obscene cakes in a dented 2011 Econoline with a temperamental transmission and no air conditioning for three years, and she had never — not once — lost a cake to gravity, potholes, or the MTA. Her record was spotless. Her back was destroyed, her checking account was on life support, and she hadn’t slept more than five hours in a row since February, but her delivery record was pristine, and in the small, chaotic empire of Sweet Ruin Bakery, that was the one metric that mattered.

She found parking half a block from the loft — a minor miracle she attributed to the intercession of Santa Edwiges, patron saint of people in debt, who Pip had been on a first-name basis with since opening the bakery.

The building was a converted warehouse with an elevator that smelled like someone had recently hotboxed it with a vanilla-scented candle and ambition. She balanced the cake box on her hip, shouldered through the freight door, and rode up four floors with her forehead pressed against the cool metal wall, counting her breaths like a woman defusing a bomb.

Which, in a sense, she was. A five-tier custom cake with hand-piped lace detailing, edible glitter, and a seven-inch sugar-paste phallus was either going to make someone’s night or end up on the floor in a scene that would haunt her Yelp reviews for eternity.

The doors opened. Bass-heavy pop music hit her in the chest. A woman in a sequined sash that read BRIDE’S LAST RIDE appeared in the hallway with a champagne flute in each hand and mascara already migrating south.

“Oh my God. You’re the cake girl!”

“I’m the cake girl.” Pip shifted the box higher on her hip and summoned her professional smile — the one that said I am delightful and competent and not at all held together with espresso and cortisol. “Where do you want her?”

The Flour on Everything — A scene TOO HOT for Amazon

One year after the wedding, Pip closes the bakery for a private celebration. Sutton arrives expecting a quiet anniversary dinner. What she gets instead involves buttercream, a kitchen counter, and the kind of after-hours activity that would void their lease. The hottest, funniest, most joyful scene in the series — and it’s all yours.
