She hired a babysitter. She found the love of her life.
Margot Chen-Parker, thirty-two, hasn’t been touched with intent in over a year. Her husband travels for work, texts other women, and treats her like furniture that keeps the house running. When she hires Saylor Reeves — twenty-three, tattooed, pierced, radiantly queer, and better with her kids in ten minutes than her husband has been in ten months — Margot tells herself she’s just getting childcare help.
She’s lying.
What starts as stolen glances over sippy cups becomes wine-soaked confessions, a kitchen kiss that rewires her nervous system, and a full-blown affair conducted in every room of the house her husband pays the mortgage on. Margot has never been with a woman. Saylor has never been anyone’s secret. Something has to break — the marriage, the affair, or Margot herself.
The Babysitter’s Girlfriend is a high-heat sapphic romance with graphic explicit content, emotional depth, a guaranteed HEA, and enough domestic tension to make you side-eye your own kitchen counter.

Chapter One
The alarm goes off at 6:02 a.m. because I can’t bring myself to set it for six on the dot — something about a round number feels too desperate, too together, like I’m the kind of woman who has a morning routine pinned on a corkboard. I’m not. I’m the kind of woman who sets her alarm two minutes past the hour like that means anything and then lies in the dark for thirty seconds, breathing, before the day eats her alive.
Derek is a lump beside me. He sleeps like a man who has never once questioned whether he deserves rest — on his back, mouth slightly open, one arm flung across the mattress into the space where my body was. The absence doesn’t register. It never does.
I pad downstairs in the dark. The kitchen is mine at this hour. The only part of this house that belongs entirely to me is the silence between 6:02 and 6:45, and I guard it like something feral.
Coffee first. His mug — the oversized one that says WORLD’S OKAYEST HUSBAND, which he thinks is funny and I used to think was funny and now I think is the most accurate piece of drinkware ever manufactured. My mug — plain white, chipped on the rim, the one I’ve had since grad school, back when I was a person with a degree and opinions and a sense of direction beyond the Target pickup lane.
I pack lunches. Lily gets turkey and cheddar on wheat, crusts removed, apple slices that will brown before she opens the bag, a note that says You’re my sunshine! in purple marker because she’s five and still believes I have everything figured out. Max gets a pouch of applesauce, goldfish crackers, a string cheese, and a prayer that he doesn’t throw it all on the floor at daycare. He’s three. Chaos is his love language.
6:38. I hear the shower upstairs. Derek’s up.
I pour his coffee. Set it on the counter where he’ll find it. This is not an act of love. It’s a reflex — like blinking, like breathing, like the way my hand goes to my left ring finger twelve times a day to twist a band I barely notice wearing anymore.
He comes down at 6:51, dressed for the office: navy polo, khakis, that cologne he bought at the airport duty-free in Phoenix two years ago that he thinks smells like sophistication and actually smells like a TGI Friday’s lobby. His hair is damp. He looks fine. He always looks fine. That’s the problem — he looks fine, in both senses of the word. Acceptable. Nothing more.
“Morning, babe.” He says it to his phone screen. His thumb is mid-scroll. He picks up the coffee without looking at it, takes a sip, doesn’t acknowledge that it exists exactly the way he likes it — black, strong, waiting — because of course it does. It always does. I always do.
“Morning.” I’m wiping down Max’s high chair tray. There’s dried oatmeal in the crevices from yesterday that has achieved a cement-like permanence, and I’m scraping at it with my thumbnail while my husband drinks coffee I made and reads emails I’ll never be cc’d on and prepares to leave for a world where people know his last name for a reason other than whose emergency contact he is.
The kids thunder down at 7:04. Lily is already dressed — she picks out her own clothes now, which means she’s wearing a tutu over leggings and a T-shirt with a dinosaur in sunglasses. I love her so much it scares me sometimes. Max is in a diaper and one sock and screaming the word “waffle” at a pitch that could shatter crystal.
“Waffle waffle waffle waffle —”
“Coming, buddy. One second.”
“WAFFLE.”
