She wanted one night with a woman. Her first mistake was making it unforgettable.
Sarah Collins has rebuilt a careful life after divorce: a good job, a beautiful house, shared custody of her eight-year-old daughter, and absolutely no room for bad decisions.
Then, after one humiliating dinner with her ex-husband and his aggressively perfect new girlfriend, Sarah walks into a women-owned cocktail bar and meets Taylor Brooks.
Taylor is twenty-nine, stunning, confident, and the owner of the bar. She has no patience for married women looking for a secret or straight women looking for a story to tell later. Sarah is neither. But she has no idea how to prove it.
One night becomes the best sex Sarah has ever had. Then it becomes a private arrangement: Thursdays only, no sleepovers, no meeting the child, no talking about the future.
Taylor accepts because she thinks Sarah wants an awakening, not a relationship. Sarah accepts because she thinks wanting Taylor is too much to build a life around. They are both wrong.

Chapter 1: One Drink
The thing about my ex-husband’s new girlfriend is that she never stops touching him. Not in a sexual way — at least not at a family restaurant at six-thirty on a Thursday with my eight-year-old daughter sitting across the table eating chicken tenders. But Megan had a hand on Kevin’s forearm, or his shoulder, or the back of his neck, and it never left.
Kevin cleared his throat. He had his Accountant Face on. “So the dates would be August eighth through the twenty-second.” I set my fork down. “That’s my second week.” “Kevin, that’s Lucy’s birthday week.” Lucy looked up from her chicken tender, suddenly interested. “Are we talking about my birthday?” “We’re talking about schedules, bug.” I smiled at her. “Eat your dinner.”
I sat in my car. The silence was enormous. I could go home. I should go home. Or. I picked up my phone. Opened Google Maps. Typed the name I’d been carrying in my head for three months. The Lantern.
She was standing at the far end of the bar. Same dark hair. Same green eyes. She extended her hand. “Taylor.” “Sarah.” I took her hand. Her grip was firm, her palm warm, and I held it for exactly one second longer than I should have.
“I don’t do married women looking for a secret. And I don’t do straight women looking for a story to tell their friends over brunch.” “I’m divorced. And I’m not straight.” “I’m not looking for a story. I’m looking for one honest night with someone who doesn’t need me to be anything other than what I am right now.”
“Stay,” she said. “I close in forty minutes.” I stayed. She didn’t change her mind. And I didn’t go home.
