Tropes: Age Gap (22 years), Boss/Employee, Contract Romance, D/s Power Exchange, Forced Proximity, Praise Kink, Grumpy/Sunshine, Touch Her and Die

The contract covers her schedule, her appearances, and her confidentiality. It does not cover the way she stops breathing every time Leela tells her to stand still.

Piper Morales can locate a private jet, replace a ruined couture gown, and arrange an anniversary dinner on forty minutes’ notice. She cannot fix the seventy-three thousand dollars her ex-girlfriend stole from their business.

Leela Sethi is a corporate attorney who bills more per hour than Piper earns in a week. She needs someone to manage her impossible life for twelve weeks — and she’s offering enough to erase Piper’s debt entirely.

The contract covers Piper’s schedule, appearances, and confidentiality. It does not cover the way Piper’s breath catches every time Leela tells her to stand still.

When Piper asks for more than professional structure, they negotiate a private addendum: rules, praise, obedience, safewords, and the promise that Piper’s paycheck never depends on what happens behind Leela’s bedroom door.

But contracts can’t prevent what neither of them planned for. Piper stops behaving like an employee. Leela stops wanting one. And when their arrangement becomes public, both women must decide whether what they built in private is worth defending in the open.

You’ll love this book if you enjoy:

Chapter One: Impossible, Done

The caterer was on fire.

Not metaphorically. Piper had dealt with metaphorical fires all week — a client’s anniversary dinner double-booked, a dry cleaner who lost a ten-thousand-dollar suit, a florist who apparently believed “seasonal” meant “whatever’s dying in the back cooler.” Those were manageable. Those were Tuesday.

This was an actual kitchen fire at Bellanova Catering, forty-seven minutes before the Whitfield Foundation’s annual gala was supposed to begin serving a three-course dinner to two hundred and sixty guests who had each paid fifteen hundred dollars a plate.

“It’s contained,” Marco Bellanova said through the phone, his voice thin with barely suppressed panic. “But we can’t — the kitchen’s out. Everything’s out. The risotto, the lamb, the —”

“Marco.” Piper pressed her phone between her ear and shoulder, simultaneously retying the ribbon on a gift basket that looked like it had been assembled by a raccoon with a grudge. “How contained?”

“Nobody’s hurt. But the oven caught a grease trap and the suppression system went off and everything is — it’s done, Piper. I can’t plate anything. We’re cooked.” He paused. “No pun intended.”

“Okay. Okay okay okay.” She dropped the ribbon. The gift basket could suffer. “I need you to not call the Whitfield Foundation. Do not call Diana Whitfield. Do not call anyone. I’m handling it.”

Seventeen minutes later, she had a kitchen.

Rosa Alejandra, who owned Cocina Alejandra six blocks from the Archer Hotel, owed Piper a favor so large it had its own gravitational pull.

“Rosa, I need your kitchen for four hours, your prep team if they’re available, and permission to bring in outside product.”

“I will owe you my firstborn child. Or, since that’s unlikely, I will get your restaurant into the Whitfield Foundation’s preferred vendor list, which is worth about forty thousand dollars a year in catering contracts.”

The gala opened. The flowers got three compliments from guests who assumed the wild, candlelit look was a deliberate design choice.

She was so focused on the ache in her arch that she didn’t notice the woman until a voice said, from approximately three feet away, “Fourteen.”

The woman was tall. Not just tall — composed in a way that made the height feel intentional. Dark suit, charcoal. Silver threading through the temples.

“Fourteen phone calls. In approximately forty minutes. I was counting.”

“I have a proposal. I need a personal concierge for twelve weeks. Live-in. The compensation would be sufficient to eliminate your outstanding debt. All of it.”

Piper looked at Leela Sethi and felt two things simultaneously. The vertiginous, throat-closing relief of someone drowning who sees a hand extended from the dock. And the bone-deep suspicion of a woman who’d already learned what it cost to let someone else hold the rope.

“Read it with a lawyer,” Leela said.

Piper tucked the card into her blazer pocket and ate four lamb skewers over a trash can in the service corridor. The compensation figure was $73,850 — three dollars and twenty-two cents more than what she owed.

Leela Sethi had calculated the exact balance and added enough to buy Piper a coffee afterward.

Three months after the epilogue. Piper shows up at the townhouse with silk ties, a blindfold, and a list of instructions she wrote herself. For the first time, every rule is Piper’s.
